INTEGRA TYPE R DC2 INCREASE IN VALUE??
Discussion
Hi all im fairly new tp this for, have owned all sorts of cars from starlet turbos, golf gtis, subarus and finally i test drove a dc2 type r 4 years ago after a lot of research and instantly knew it was the ultimate front wheel drive drivers car.
We all know that the dc2 is getting rarer and with the economic downturn we have seen the price of cars go haywire, especially jap cars as imports sales are down etc.
But ive been following the market in irl,uk,jap closely for the dc2 type r and noticed a sharp increase after a huge drop in price in 2007. Ther now up to
around 4k sterling and the same in euro.
Is it worth hanging on to this car as it may aquire more in value over the next 10-20 years? IS it one of the special cars like audi quatro, lancia delta, renault 5 turbo, and so many more, that will have a place in motocar history, like the nsx,is it gona be a show car that ill get paid to show of at events in 20 years time? and how rare are standard ones becoming?
Last sentence(will i tear my ears off for selling it now and regret it in 20 years??)
Basically is it gona go down in tge history books as a legend, afterall it is a revolutionary car,and will i tears my ears off for srll

Not likely to be increasing much in real terms, but if you can afford to keep it for nostalgic purposes, then do so.
Doesn't/didn't have the cachet appeal of the NSX, since it wasn't influenced by Ayrton Senna, and was't a halo model or strictly limited edition.
The Ltd Edtn Mugen JDM CTR (FD2) may be more of a show car in years to come, but still won't have the same draw as an NSX.

The only way you'll ever make money out of a DC2, and i ain't talking thousands, is having a DC2, probably JDM that has next to no miles on it, and has lived its life in a garage, or on non salty japanese roads. The exchange rate will eventually flip, and the market will once again be flooded with DC2s from Japan.
The prices will probably remain stable for the good examples, or jump slightly, but your talking maybe a 1k or 2 above what they are the now. Just to many about!!!

Agree with DC5TEG - unless you've got a Minty McMint low-mile example, then it's not going to appreciate. But equally it shouldn't really lose much - given where 205GTi's are now, the DC2 is going to loiter in the £3-5k mark, depending on condition/history.
That said, they're at the age where most are going to start needing work doing, so if you're looking to buy one, either:-
- pay a premium for one which has had work done, and accept you might suffer some dep'n; or
- get a cheap-but-straight one and spend maybe a grand or two sorting it out - it'll be worth more after but not equal to the extra you've spent on it.

I've had mine a month now. Still really enjoying it but have the arch dilema.
Do I bite the bullet and get the rear arches sorted? If I'm spending £1000 do you think I'll see any back come re-sale time?
The car has full Honda sh and is clearly a keeper and don't really want to run it till it dies of rot but it's an awful lot of wedge!

Absolutely, it'll only get worse and it's an easier position to be in come selling time that you took care of it, wouldn't say you'll get the full amount back but it'll set you apart from the snotters that are popping up. £1k seems steep, but I guess it depends how bad it is. I've seen £600 a few times on some with quite severe rot.

Low mileage examples are bound to appreciate
DC2 values have stayed pretty stable compared to other cars of the same age/ price
The way I look at it, the longer I hold on to my teg, the more my next car on the cards, the s2000, will be depreciating comparitavely

I drove an original Integra Type R for three years as a company car. Now have a 2008 S2000 which is great.
The S2000 being a convertible is fantastic...but as a pure toy, the Integra is actually the better car. On a fast road the way the car reacts to the front differential is great.
There is no real difference in performance.
If we swapped for 6 months, after the 6 months you would be looking forward to getting your Integra back.
Regards
Brian.

Same here, I have the arch dilemma, and not sure I can stomach the £1k bill to sort it. I'm going to sell as is I think before it gets any worse.Do I bite the bullet and get the rear arches sorted? If I'm spending £1000 do you think I'll see any back come re-sale time?

No point in spending money on arches if you're going to sell. But don't come back whining when people won't offer you a decent price due to said arch repair cost
I saw a couple described as 'light rust on arch lips', when in fact one has rust bubbling thorugh the paintwork above the side sticker and the other had a bootwell full of water, knackered arches and rusty doors.
You can do what you want with your car, but those looking for one with good arches with an overhauled suspension setup will not go near such a car that has been used and sold on. So you'll be left with low budget buyers, chancers or those who just want to use and enjoy the car like yourselves and sell on before it's shagged completely.
