Hi all, now, due to the alarming rate at which fuel is increasing i am now looking for a new car (new to me). Currently i am driving a 1998 Peugeot 306 D-Turbo but diesel costs more than the moon, hence i found a lovely little Civic 1.4 petrol. However i am worryed that it will be just as expensive to run, the tax is somewhat cheaper tho, and this is a massive plus but if anyone could tell me what kind of running costs to expect i would be most grateful and also what to look out for. The Civic has done around 70,000 ish and is completely standard.

The Pug 306 diesel is a very cheap car to run, you are most unlikely to make any fuel savings by running the Civic. However, at least you can drive the Civic without a multitude of rattles, squeaks and bits of trim falling off, and you have a sweet sounding petrol engine instead of the tractor lump in the Pug.

the 306 HDIs are some of the cheapest to run cars you can probably buy, I would imagine the D turbo can't be too far off, unless you're constantly flooring it? It should be cheaper to run than the Civic. Probably wont last as long, although the 306 is the last good car the French made..
