Hi everybody i own a Honda S2000 (09 reg) and i just wanted to know that after how long of driving my S2000 do we know that the engine is warmed up (or by how many blocks on the digital temp gauge) tells you that the engine is warm enough to bring the v-tec in? Many Thanks.

Well myself owning a Civic type R..!..I Always allow my engine to warm up to normal operating temp when i first start it, and before i drive it..as a warm engine will always run better than a cold or warming up engine....plus its good practise to remember that until the oil is warmed up it gets thinner, allowing better and full lubrication...A normal cold car will only take approx 4-5mins to warm and approx 7-8mins on a freezing morning....worth the wait.....then vtec as u please...smile

It takes around 10 minutes of driving for the S2000 engine to be at full operating temp. This comes from someone on S2ki who had installed additional gauges and was able to verify the oil temp data.

By contrast the coolant is warmed up much quicker, of course.

That's 10mins of open road driving, not 10 mins of start-stop city traffic.

Prob best to wait till the engine is at normal operating temprature, half way on the gauge and then go from there, that will be when oil pressure flow and temprature will be at its best

Get in and drive it keeping the revs under 4k til its properly warm. As mentioned, the temp bars are coolant not oil temp. I wouldnt rev it hard til at least 10+ mins driving (not crawling). Small price to pay to look after the engine. Chap at work followed me out the gate one cold evening and said 'its a sports car i expected you to boot it down the road'...no i have mechanical sympathy!!
