I've just picked up a used S2000 (and loving it! biggrin ) however its had a performance exhaust fitted, which if I was back 18 I'd be in love with but as I do a fair amount of motorway miles I'm just finding it way too boomy... Plus I'm currently in the kennel with the gf over it hehe

Around town it is too much, and on the motorway it only tones down slightly at 80mph (70mph smile ) in 6th before returning. I know theres no decat as its just passed the MOT.

Is there a way of silencing or at least quieting it down so its not as boomy without shelling out for a whole new system?

No, Put a standard exhaust system back on it, the cabin noise is noisey enough on them anyway

Which system? Most have a removable bung that takes a lot of the boominess out.

Still wont be OE db levels though.

Thanks for the replies. I don't mind something sporty or only noticeable in vtec, but this thing actually seems louder out of vtec than above 6k rpm!

Not sure on the make, its def a cat-back. Interesting on the bungs though, I didn't realise - I'll have a proper look underneath. I've read on an s2k forum that installing a decat can often actually make it less boomy!

On a separate note, has anyone driven one with and without a wind deflector? Mine is deflector-less so querying whether it actually makes much difference drilling the holes to install one.

Assuming you mean the ting little deflector between the seats, it was useless IME.

^ Looks similar to the bungs that came with my buddyclub.

You should be able to find an OEM exhaust pretty cheap on Ebay, might be a better option? I find the stock car tiring enough the motorway. However I do have a K&N FIPK kit which can be very noisy when flooring it, but quiet otherwise. Much prefer it like that ;-)

Decatting to make it quieter? That's a new one! Once you have a straight-through backbox or boxes, the cat is the last thing really holding up the gas flow, and the slower is flows the quieter it will be. Perhaps S2000s are different, but in most cars, once you remove the car the volume usually goes up by a few dbs.

as Jurgen said, I would personally get an oem back on if its a daily drive.

I fitted a skunk 2 (same as the Invidia), and yes it is one of the loudest exhausts for the s2k but even with the bungs in it became a real headache. Great for the 10% of the time in the car I wanted it to be loud, but for the rest of the time it was a nightmare. It lasted two weeks before the oem went back on.

Now just have a k&n fipk, sounds amazing under vtec and pretty much the same as stock the rest of the time which is plenty loud enough.

You could get a decat pipe which will help remove the drone but I still think it would be too noisy on a daily basis.
