I bought an import Dc2 for track use in the summer, complete with a few issues. There is a crunching upon release of the clutch, and a grinding noise when lifting off the throttle in 2nd, and accelerating in third. It seems to ease up as the fluids warm up, and isn't as noticeable in 4th and 5th. 2nd and 3rd are the main offenders.

I'm thinking diff bearings, pressure plate, maybe even gearbox. It might even be something as simple as a release bearing as I'm unsure if it was changed when the clutch was last changed.

Before I get a look at it tomorrow, has anyone encountered anything like this before?

I know it's impossible to diagnose anything like this on a forum, but just seeing if it sounds familar to anyone on the forum.

I'd certainly start with new MTF and take it from there. I had some crunch issues at high revs going into 3rd and 5th in my dc2, after some new and regular oil changes they never returned.

if its crunching already the damage is done so wouldnt bother with oil change. Just take the box out replace clutch and release bearings and get the box rebuilt, If you live near buckingham i will gladly rebuild it for you.

I'm in Ireland here but your offer is appreciated.

I don't mind a box swap or even a rebuild as the car's well within it's money, it was bought with the issues present. I was just looking an easy fix as usual. I pulled the clutch out today, as far as I can see there has been a clutch put in it and the release bearing wasn't changed, so it's worth a try I suppose.

sounds like the mainshaft bearing in the casing has gone, after re reading bout the noise on overrun and noise goes in higher gears, but if you decide to get the box rebuilt may as well get all bearings and synchros replaced, saves removing the whole lot again in the future

I would get the lot replaced as the box will be out anyway. I'll have a look once I get the lot out but that's food for thought, thanks for the advice mate.
