Just bought a Honda Civic 2.2 CDTI EX, 50k on clock with FSH.
Parked up and 24 hours later wont start. Headlights turn on and engine trys but fails to start. I jump started the car thinking I had left the interior light on (hence the reason of the flat battery) but the same thing has happened tonight.

Is this a battery issue (dying battery) or other? Anyone else had similar problems? First time I've had a civic or a japanese car for that matter so any advice welcomed.

Buy a new battery or get it checked out first?

Thanks

It probably just needs a good overnight charge, and if that doesn't work then try a new battery.
One thing to note is if you jump start it - make sure the key is not in the ignition when you connect the jump leads - if it is you will wipe the code from the key which will mean a visit to your local dealer, good luck.

Cheers.....Tony..

Could be the infamous MICU recall issue.

Go to the Honda website, visit the Recalls and Updates section, enter your VIN and see if it has been seen to, or not.

No recall issue. I charged the battery using a heavy duty charger and it was fine for about 5 days - although the last 3/4 it's been sitting idle. No its flat again. Am I right in guessing the battery has gone and need to change or could there be something draining it? I've checked and everything is off I.e no lights on etc.

Has anyone else had any similar issues/resolutions?

Either this or a flat battery. The batteries used to drain a lot if unused for a day or more.

I had this exact problem on my FN2 Type-R. It got so bad that it wouldn't start after being parked up for only a couple of days. It went into the dealers a few times and mine wasn't a vehicle that was affected by the recall.

They did battery health tests, checked the ECU made sure it was charging checked battery drain etc and on and on..

The dealer never did get to the bottom of it, however I did...Simply changed the crappy battery that Honda had put in my car with a Bosch one and I've not had any issues since.
