Hi guys,

I'm having trouble insuring a Honda s2000, the quotes have been coming back at £2000+. I live in a good area I have 6 years no claims bonus the car will be parked in a secure carpark in the day and on the driveway overnight.

I've had a look on s2ki.com and there's a thread of under 25s who insure their cars at a reasonable price (£1000~) I've tried them all...chris knotts, sky, admiral, bells, flux etc and I'm no where near them. All ranging from 2000-4000. When I turn 25 I can insure it at 1250 odd.

it needs to be insured by a reputable company not some tin pot insurer.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I insured mine when I was 24 (turned 25 in december, insurance due next month).

IRC mine was around £1600 with admiral, but I wanted to car so went for it.

Something that brought my insurance down a few hundred was adding familt members to the policy. Also, limting mileage helps, but I'm sure you already know this.

If anyone can shed some light on cheaper insurance I would love to know too!

The answer is, you can't insure an S2000 cheaply!

I had a MK1 Focus RS insured, I changed my policy to the S2000, and was charged another £450!

I think I already knew there wasn't a cheap fix smile

I'm looking forward (dreading?) the latest quote, hopefully now I'm 25 it should go down, but I did have a non-fault claim in summer mad

It was a nightmare for me to insure one too. Notified insurer of 2 non fault claims (basically, my lack of luck!) and the total amount went up by £300!!

If your going FROM another sporty car to the S2000 then that does actually help. When i had my old S2000 (i bought it back in 2007 when i was 27) a couple of the companies wanted to know what my previous cars were (prior to the S2000 was an EP3 type r).
The early and mid S2000s dont have traction control and are obviously RWD so theres a pretty significant chance that someone whos not owned something with any oomph before might just not treat it with enough respect in the wet and wrap it up.
Try Adrian Flux. I always seem to swap between Admiral and Adran Flux every couple of years who've been decent for me.

thanks for the help guys, i've tried most of my quotes online and a few over the phone, still no joy. i've made it clear that i've been driving a "high performance car" (Integra Type R DC2) for the last 3 years, asking them if that counts for anything and i get the impression they can't do much about it, that said, i haven't tried admiral or adrian flux over the phone (just through confused.com) . i'm going to spend all of today on the phone trying to get quotes now. wish me luck! i'm going to need it.hehe

Admiral and sky were the cheapest for me, 28 years old, come from an st220. No RWD experience. £1150

As said above, s2000 isn't cheap to insure. You'll get cheaper quotes on more powerful cars than the S.

Hi Ash,

i've already got a quote from you guys, you are fairly competitive but not the cheapest. Sky Insurance are quoting me £1944, Flux were at £3200 everyone else is over £4,000.

i'm pretty much set on the idea of waiting until i'm 25, i can't justify spending more than £1250 on insurance.

Wanna bet? Get one over 10 yrs old, classic car policy, limited mileage and voila. Mine is £300 per year fully comp (34 yr old with 6 points!)

i've looked into the "future classic" insurance too (for the 2004>), but they only take over 30's and people who do less than 5000 miles a year....

Well, Adrian Flux have given me the cheapest quote so far, but to relate that back to the OP, my insurance has, going by current quotes; dropped by ~£700 just by turning 25 and gaining another years NCB, despite having a non-fault claim last year.

It is also comfortably below your max price so waiting till you are 25 will help by alot!

I was 23 when I got mine but I only had to pay the extra for the last few months on the policy.
When I renewed I was 24 and it came to just under £1500 with breakdown and personnel injury cover.
That was with elephant with all mods declared.

^ Nice car, I like the amuse lip.

How does the AEM V2 affect throttle response? I have been looking at getting an induction 'kit' and aftermarket exhaust as the car sounds ok as standard and running with the airbox lid off makes a bit of noise but harms response and power...

Before Flux quoted Elephant was my cheapest for renewal.

One of the main things that has helped you on your cover is the fact that you have owned the vehicle over 12 months. 12 months high performance driving experience is definitely something the insures like to see.
