Accord 2004 Sat Nav
Discussion
I disconnected my battery yesterday to replace it and when I reconnected it I was getting a DISC READ ERROR on my built in Sat Nav.
I took the disc out and cleaned it carefully. Tried again and still same error.
This is where I made a major mistake! I thought that maybe I had put the disc in the wrong way so put it in data side up. BIG mistake the disc came out with two scratched tramlines across it! I was gutted.
Stuck it back in and still the error. Gave up...
When I started car this morning it is now working fine but I can hear the drive ticking over? Maybe I am now aware of it?
Could the scratched DVD be making the drive work harder to read it? A new disc is £100 plus and on Ebay £60-£70...
Also could the system have reset itself over night, strange how it is now working ok?
Cheers

Thanks for the replies. Any ideas how much a repair is via Honda on the DVD unit? I read somewhere they send them off for repair? How many hours labour to take it out and re-fit?
I'm pretty sure it's an Alpine unit.If you ask on the type accord forum I'm sure somebody will point you in the right direction.
It's a pretty common thing. You can get discs for £25 online. They're copies but run fine in my experience and are up to date data wise.
They are indeed Alpine units - I believe the £180 charge is simply the charge to open, clean and inspect it, however that's usually enough to get them working again. Considering how many hours it's been running for in the last 7 years or so it's pretty impressive.
I opened and cleaned mine myself, took about an hour all in and it works perfectly now. Search typeaccord.co.uk great resource for 'how to guides.
