Got an 04 Accord (petrol) with 116K and the clutch is very heavy. Booked it into Honda for a replacement clutch which is going to set me back £720......!!!! yikes

Why is it so much? I know Honda rates are high? I wouldn't have bought the car if I had known how much a clutch would cost.

On a previous high miler I owned (Citroen), a new clutch was £400 fitted.

The car is probably not worth 2k.

Not much choice I suppose. I want a decent job and the genuine part.

I suppose I am looking for a shoulder to cry on here..!weeping

Moral of the story avoid high milers, even if well looked after.teacher

What the hell, ring some independents for quotes. You may also find the same clutch cheaper aftermarket, other companies make clutches on behalf of the various manufacturers and ship them out in manufacturers branded boxes but also sell them to other retailers too.

I got a new clutch fitted for £250 on a Civic MB6 vtec, I think Honda wanted £450.

UPDATE

Clutch kit - £260
Labour to fit - £460

Just been told that the flywheel has seen better days and it would be best to change it while the the gearbox is out. Flywheel cost £340!

Total is £1060 for a clutch including flywheel fitted by Honda main dealer.

Worth considering if buying a high mileage Accord. Clutch might need changing...

Where about in the country are you? I also thought that the clutch was part of the Honda happiness scheme, that doesn't include all balancer belts but was £300 ish.

Honda quoted me £960 for a clutch for my atr which didn't include everything like water pumps. I got an Indy to do it for £400, that included a mugen clutch of eBay for £115!

Based in Berkshire. Funny that you ask that. My northern wife who owns a Civic which she has had for about 6 years (4 years before I got the Accord) needed the rear bushes changing soon after she bought it used. She was quoted nearly £200 less at a Manchester Honda dealer. So we traveled up (fuel was cheaper back then) dropped the car off and spent the day in the Trafford center. Worked out cheaper.

Maybe I should have considered it?

Yes the clutch is part of the Honda Happiness Scheme £740 is the price on the website for parts and labour but the flywheel is unfortunately not included.

I do wonder if I have been miss-sold the flywheel but the technicians words were 'it has seen better days to be honest, I am not trying to sell you a part'.

Will have to stomach it grumpy
