My brother's S2000 seems to be losing charge from the battery very quickly for some reason. My dad took it for an MOT earlier today, and in the couple of hours it was there the battery went flat (the MOT guy said he hadn't left lights etc on).

This has happened before, resulting in a new battery being fitted. So is there anything that could be causing this, or is it just that he's been very unlucky with dodgy batteries?

The car has been doing pretty much nothing for the last 2 years btw, as my bro has been abroad. However, my dad has been running it every now and then.

Thanks in advance for any help!

sounds to me like it just needs a good overnight charge, just running a car every now and then does not keep a cars battery charged, get it charged then tested, replace if necesary and invest in a battery conditioner, I use a ctek and have had no problems over the years.

Cheers.....Tony..

OK thanks.

My dad informs me that he put it on an Optimate until it was fully charged before it went for its MOT, so he's just wondering if there's anything else other than a dud battery that might cause it to go flat so quickly?

Apparently the battery had been disconnected most of the time the car was off the road if that makes any difference.

If thats the case then it can only be 1 of 2 things, either the battery is knackered or there is a drain on it somewhere, it will probably be just a plain old fashioned knackered battery.

Cheers.....Tony..

I had this years ago on a car and it did it for 2 years until the week I sold the car, in the end I found a similar car in the scrap yard with the same ECU on and tried that and it cured my problem.

what I did at the time of finding the problem was place a tester light between either the earth or positive lead on the battery, if it was lit then there was something draining
obviously anything that could had to be off ie. alarm, clock, stereo etc
pull a fuse out at a time, when the light goes out that could be the source

this was 16 years ago though, cars have changed a bit, could still work

Forgot I'd made this topic - thanks for the tips guys. I'll pass them on to my dad and see if it helps.

Was it a Hamilton Palmer alarm by any chance? What year was the car?
