So ive been looking at getting a new car for a while, I was looking at S3's and LCR's, but then i came across this picture, and fell in love biggrin

The only problem ive encountered is Insurance, its TWICE the price of an S3, but it makes up for it in looks.
Is it worth it?
I keep day dreaming about myself with the roof down in the sun biggrin

If you think that one looks good, you should see one that hasn't been tastelessly modified!

Fantastic piece of kit, so much more fun and involving than Any hot hatch. Drive one and you'll fall in love, (if you are willing to stir it up and drive it like it wants.)

I pay £900 insurance, 23 yr old, 2yrs ncb on a 2005 gt.

I've got a soft spot for the S2000, but that modified one you've posted is awful. Do you seriously think that rear wing looks good??

Not just the wing, lets not forget:

  • The wheels that don't fit the car in terms of style or colour
  • Those very strange front wheel arch cutaway panels, complete with massive panel gap and untidy bolting
  • What appears to be some of stick-on diffuser under the rear of the car
I think there is a lot to be said for keeping these cars standard, in terms of appearance at least. All that stuck on Fast and the Furious tat just ruins the style.

Hey I'm all for performance mods and Spoon and Js racing make some great kit - I'm even getting a Spoon exhaust for my EP3 (or maybe a Fujitsubo...) but the "Jap style" modding that became popular, especially in America, after the Fast and the Furious films started coming out, really does nothing for me. I like to keep it fairly subtle in terms of look, when you start getting into things like stick on wings, heavily cambered wheels, lurid paintjobs / stickers and all the stuff that is popular in that scene it starts to look a mess imo.

Yea i can understand that its not to everyones taste as its a bit in your face.

but myself and the GF are both loving it biggrin

Ive looked at getting the Rota Grids but in order to make the wider ones fit id need a widebody kit which is well out of my budget.

Any wheels you would recommend?

I know S2000s are supposed to be susceptible to geometry changes without going into bigger, wider spaced wheels etc. I would think that given the amount of work Honda put into making the chassis good, you will probably only negatively affect the balance and driveability of it. Sure, it might corner a little quicker and flatter, but I think it would end up being a total hog on the road.

Like the wheels on that S but not keen in the wing and front wings.
You should get one mate, I wanted one for years and have in no way regretted buying mine 13 months ago.

Yep - the only nice thing on that car is the wheels. The rest of the mods look awful.

The rear diffuser and skirts on that car looks good, plus it looks like it has coilovers so that is a good start. But I dislike everything else. 18" rims on a S2k just don't look right.

Just fitted a Amuse Titanium Exhaust (Dual), decat and K&N FIPK to mine, I have had it 18 months and I am falling in love again, oh the noise at 9k rpm, sends shivers down your spine everytime! Love it! And then...you change gear and you close the throttle get a cheeky pop and fart out the exhaust and start all over again! biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

I'm considering an aftermaket intake as well. I've now got the standard airbox with a K&N replacement filter. Box closed it's as quiet as oem, but open it's amazing. Although when open you do seem to loose a bit of throttle response and perhaps a few bhp in the midrange. How do you find the FIPK kit? Does it sound as loud as an open airbox? And did you notice and difference in driving (either positive or negative)? The AEM V2 seems to be best, but it's hard to fit and you have the risk of sucking up water!

FIPK is easy to fit. The seat of the pants dyno thinks there is more mid range punch and maybe a little bit more on the top end, but it is the sound that is the best bit. It is very civil around town, just the odd roar when you open the taps a bit, but get it into VTEC and it SCREAMS! It sounds absolutely amazing and far better than the air box lid off! Plus you don't have the problem with heat soak as it takes a cold air feed through the drivers front side panel. It is a quality bit of kit and they come up pretty regularly on S2Ki for sale forum plus they are available on eBay and other sites.

Great bit of kit and highly recommended.

The AEM V2 is better, the chances of hydrolocking are slim, but much higher risk than the K&N!

RE Coilovers. It depends what the car is being used for. If it's for road use only or you're only doing 1 or 2 track days a year, then I would say 9 out of 10 times, coilovers will ruin the car for the majority of year.

Yeh to be honest, I think I would rather spend £7k and get a 200bhp Westfield than spend £2k on getting coilovers and bushes replaced on the S2k. At least that way the S stays somewhat practical and usable and you have a dedicated track car to rattle your teeth out!
