I am currently in the proces of trying to buy a good S2000, the main problem I'm having is that they have either high miles or are a long way from me in Derbyshire. I am looking for ideally an older one, 1999/2000 (I prefer the raw nature of the older ones) not red, less than 50k on the clock with full honda service history and unmodified, I'm not looking for the holy grail and I will pay good money for the right car! am I being too optimistic or does anyone know of one that is or will be up for sale soon that is not currently being advertised ?
Thanks in anticipation.

Cheers.....Tony..

Me too!

I am looking for:

2000-2006 (Cheaper tax)
<50K Miles
Yellow/Orange/Black/Red/Blue
£7K-£10K

I would prefer a yellow or orange one, but can't seem to find one anywhere frown

You're looking for a 11/12 year old car with less than 50k on the clock. Thats your problem.

Why less than 50,000 miles? There are plenty of good cars with far more than that....

My S2000 has only done about 48k miles (March 2000), but buy more on condition - have a look on s2k forum too. I know there have been some year 2000 cars with silly mileage like 19k been snapped up in the past.

18"s and Tein's? Nah - I wouldn't.

- 18"s ruin the ride and don't help the handling. Plus very few a/market wheels come in the proper Honda offsets.
- Lowering springs won't help ride or handling either. Nitron dampers have been known to eliminate the slight 'imbalance' the rear feels under really hard cornering on broken tarmac, and IIRC there's one or two other options that have been explored with success, but last I checked Tein wasn't one of them.

Agree with the above - buy on condition more than mileage, but I'd steer clear of a 90k+ car as:-
- it'll be 100k+ when you want to sell, and it's not like the S2000 is a rare car
- the engines have been known to suffer from high (100k+) mileage. Not all, but some...

OP - an 02/03 car can have the geo set to '99 settings, and you've then got the glass rear screen and slightly nicer (IMHO) alloys.

I agree with you, I would consider a slightly newer one if one came along,

be patient-you never know what might turn up on Autotrader one day priced-to-sell. I waited for a bit before I bought mine and a guy less than 20 miles away was selling his S2K at a very low price because he simply had to get rid of it before moving to France. Perfect for me!

Either that, or be prepared to widen your search. MY99/00 are going to be rare with really low mileage-I wouldn't get phased by those with higher mileage though. I know a guy with 132k on his MY99 S2000 and its running fine. As already mentioned as long as its been serviced nicely you'll be fine!

I looked at a 50K 2000 reg the other day & whilst it was ok it just wasn't as clean as I had hoped. I have seen higher mileage examples in better condition but alas I still have not found the right one, I am biding my time as I am in no rush.

Dave, I've tried contacting you by PM but it got returned to my inbox, I'd like to know where this car is, would you be able to send me a PM of the basic details of this car please, I'd rather keep it off PH to be fair the seller.

Cheers.....Tony..

Good to know that there are people looking for low mileage S2000s. I have one (02 model year) which I continue thinking of changing for a later 911, eventually it will happen I think, its just that the S2000 is hard to let go as its such a good car and delivers 80% of the 911 fun for like 20% of the cost!

Just drive a bit further mate. What's a hundred quid fuel in a few grand car. My last two cars (including an s2k) have been >100miles away. Find the right car then jump in the car

I went to look at one yesterday afternoon which was 140 miles away, that was a long afternoon, the car was not right as well, there seems to be a lot in scotland, I will travel but don't want to be doing 200-300 miles each way.

Cheers.....Tony..

That's fair enough. I was fairly lucky, the first car I travelled for was a main dealer so I had hoped this was all cosha, the s2000 was from a forum member so was pretty clued up and was a genuine bloke.

Good luck, you won't regret it. I've just been out for a top down blast before the f1 starts and I'm still smiling.
