I have had a number of cars since I parted with my EP3 Type R back in 2006, Including an Elise, Boxster and Leon Cupra but since the launch of the FN2 back in 06, I been giving them more than the odd admiring glance.

Pondering which car to buy since around christmas time, I seemed to go through and endless list of possibilities. Having just had a baby boy, the expectancy to remain in something practical was ever present also. However, the FN2 Type R always seemed to make every weeks new 'shortlist' despite not being an obvious practical choice.

6 weeks ago I had pretty much settled on onwing a Type R again, albeit with uncertancies regarding the not so great reviews the car has received. A bit more searching and reading and I was completely smitten, I seemed to like every thing about it - inside, outside and of course the K20 engine which I had experienced before in my EP3. Only one last doubt... Am I looking back at my old Type R with rose tinted spectacles? Would the new FN2 be a dissapointment after the EP3? There was only one way to find out...

Selling my 9-5 Aero on the Friday evening, I had my eye on an 2007 Type R GT with only 22k miles on the clock (It had to be Milano red!) and so with money in my pocket I went over to the garage the next day to have a look.

The car looked stunning, the GT pack (something I wasn't that bothered about when I first started looking) now mad the car far more appealing and the optional Sat Nav and Bluetooth units were a pleasing bonus.
Jumping in the drivers seat, great memories came flooding back. The heavily bolstered seats hugging your waist and supporting your shoulders. A far cry for the super comfy armchairs in the Aero!
taking the wheel, it was kind of obvious that the car would feel great coming from something a bit more laid back but it seemed to give more than I was expecting. Nimble and light on it's feet, the car seemed to dart around roundabouts
with a purposeful, solid feel. The engine was a delight, the note seems much more stronger than before and seems to be engineered to penetrate the cabin, hightening your senses even more.

Back at the garage I was sold. The only obstacle was the obligitory negotiation of batting around £100 increments until finally a middle ground is met. One week until collection...

Since picking the car up at the weekend, it has managed to do what a really wanted my next car to do and that is make me smile every time I jump in, and to make me feel like I'm driving something that little bit special.

I'm definately enjoying being back in a Honda

nice.....i have recently jumped into a fn2 type r and its great. Some over the top negativity about it being "heavy" and "slow" have turned some people off but it really is a great drive...as you say its the type of car you get in just to have a drive, getting the car screaming in the vtec zone combined with the great gearbox are both moments to remember. It may not be quite the track tool some expected buts its still the hot hatch with the most character recently and for an everyday quick car its excellent.
