HRV Engine transplant?

As my DC5 is having trouble selling to a private buyer, part of me is tempted to keep it and buy a 's
tter' for the winter (though itd be my 3rd car and im a 1 person family at the mo) and ideally a 4x4.
This has got me thinking about the HRV from the early 90's but looking at the paper stats, the engine appears a bit gutless and i cant imagine it attaining the paper MPG figures (performance and MPG will play a big part if i sell the teg), which has got me thinking about doing an engine transplant into a HRV.
However, i have no idea what engine could go in, do you?
