I was at the Euro Nationals at Santa pod on Sunday, first time I had seen Top Fuelers since the early 1980s, had forgotten what a total assault on the senses they were, was well impressed. had forgotten what potent, evil stuff nitromethane is until walked into the pits and saw the crew working on a fueller wearing gas masks while the engine was running, there was a discernible yellow vapour rising up from their canvas roof!

Anyway my question, does the (nitromethane) Fuel Funny Car class still exist in this country?

Yes, but it has gone through quite a bare patch recently. You will have hopefully seen John Spuffard and Leif Helander put down some storming runs, and Gary Page was also re-acclimatising himself with the hot seat of a fuel flopper. There are people working on bolstering the class and there are noises around about new cars coming out next season so the future might be bright for the class if it all comes together. That said there are limited numbers of racers and if one class grows another will shrink - we may see more fuel funny cars at the detriment of (for example) TMFC and Top Fuel Dragster which would be a shame as it has been fun watching qualifying with bump spots.
