What time did you leave? Did you find it difficult getting out? I left early due to there being so many people there.

I think this is one of the last big hurdles that The pod have to sort out.
I know they can't do anything about Arifield Road, but with that crowds they are now getting it's murder trying to leave, I hung around until almost 8pm before joing the queue.

Back in the early '90s, when I was crewing on a MOD ET car we left via the Scruitineers pits and joined the perimiter road at the bottom of the strip which ran round and came on to Airfield Road at the back of the Hangers. Now, obviously you can't divert people through the pits, but maybe some use of the perimiter road would reduce the queues to an extent?

Why not come to some arrangement with the local farmers and get the fans with Chelsea tractors to go the back fields pathways! That's if they do not mind getting the things dirty! idea
I think a shuttle bus system from a more open location would be more suitable.

I cannot see for one minute allowing people drive down the green lanes.

We left after the last run at about 4.45. As expected we then sat in a queue for about an hour to get out. Not really a big deal, and having attended events there for nearly 30 years, its part of the 'event'.

As usual we had the 'I can't wait in this queue' prats who zoom off down the side of everyone else waiting in line for there turn to get out and starting yet another queue in the car park. I do think better marshalling within the site would help everyone get out sooner.

Anyway, the problem is never going to go away so its just a case of being aware of it before going and being 'patient' and queue like everyone else.

Cracking event though. Can't remember the last time racing finished so early ! Mainly down to the good weather and very little down time on the track.

One thing that struck me at the weekend is that the expansion of the track boundaries - not so long ago the family camping field was full of crops, and now the pits have expanded inot what was family camping. Likewise I think the available car parking space has grown, and even this was not enough.

The delays in getting out are largely due to the impatience of people parked near the gate - they were all pushing out of the car park meaning there was absolutely nowhere for vehicles further inside the venue to go. We waited around and drunk tea until the queue moved then were out in no time - better to be comfortable than cramped when there is a 4 hour wait in front of you...

Maybe the Pod could take a leaf out of the British Grand Prix's books - to alleviate congestion they put on a Gig after the race, this encourages some people to leave later. Of course Silverstone has far better traffic connections - the Pod only has one way in/out. I would imagine it wouldn't be easy to add an East exit heading for the A6 to complement what would then be a West exit for the A509

Since KB bought the Pod in 1996, the size of Santa Pod has virtually doubled. Don't know if he has bought the land or leased it from the farmer, but considerable acreage both sides of the track has been added over the past 10 years. The amount of car parking space on Sunday was enough as there was still a fair amount of empty space right at the very top near the end of the shutdown area. However, saying that, every square inch of grass IS taken up every year for the Bug Jam.

Well I've just got home (staying Sunday night is the answer to all of life's problems, also handy for catching up on lost sleep)

What a brillaint weekend; some of the best racing I've ever seen; many championships going down to the final round or semi's before they were decided; Urs doing a Tony Schumacher like win top clench the top fuel title, and everyone's favourite Fast Freddy winning the alky funny car championship in his first year

Very little down time at all, all finals run by about 5pm Sunday, and best of all - no rain

Is it me or is there always an accident at the cross roads. Or is that just an urban Santa Pod myth?! It was also said that Police were down there but when i reached the cross roads (with ease might i add at 8pm) they were gone.

We sat around our pit area until 8pm drinking tea, packed up slowly and then headed off. It's the usual.

2 things said seem to be a good idea. 1) Widen the airfield road 2) Someone said a shuttle bus system....where would the car park be if it was not on site? But a good idea.

To be honest it takes such a long time to pack everything away for the race car it's no big deal staying put for two hours.

How about in a Farmers field around Bozeat or Wellingborough buy the main roads?

I mean if it really worked out they could run a bus from J14 Coachway in jolly Milton Keynes and drive the coach there. It's only 20 minutes away.

Just an idea i had.
