Hmm, travelling up to the Pod from Heathrow friday 9am ish and saw that M1 is once again pants.
Do I stay with it and chance against missing the start of the first Pro session, or would an A5 or A1 route be better ?

If you live in the Heathrow area I'd change my plan to leave at 'oh-my-God-o'clock-ish'. If you're flying into Heathrow then I guess more local guys than me could advise.

I'd allow an hour for the roadworks coming north; could be jammed or could be flowing OK; the A5 turnoff is in the middle of it so turning off there will save you some grief unless you hit Dunstable at rush hour which could hold you up for another half an hour

Why not avoid it all together by going up the M40 to J10 and take the A43 past Silverstone to join the M1 at Northampton?

thanks for the replies - I am flying into Heathrow from Munich so no earlier start possible.

I came up the M1 today and it was free flowing - just 50mph limit being observed with 'average speed cameras' in place.
It's probably a lot less hassle to stick with M1, but try and listen to a traffic report once you've landed.

The bigest problem is getting to the MI from Heathrow. The M25 between the M40 and the M1 is where it backs up. I normally use the M40 then go across to Northampton past Silverstone...BJ

I live in Luton where the M1 roadworks are, and listening to the local traffic reports over the past couple of weeks or so, couldn't help noticing there's been a hell of a lot of broken down vehicles in the roadworks which obviously has caused chaos. If you're going to chance coming up the M1, then I feel you'll be taking a risk.
