After about 30 years of going to the Pod I've finally treated myself to a trip to Pomona in November for the NHRA finals. As the tickets have just become available, any advice from anyone whose been on which grandstand to go for, and any other useful information.
Thanks, Gary

I prefer to sit close to the starting line but you have a good weiw from anywhere in the grandstands and they run instant reply on the big screen. Everything is well organized from the parkinglot to the restrooms (plenty of both) so you can relax and have fun.
It is a must to check out the pro pits.

Don't get to close to the start line in case the wind's blowing your way!

You'll be better off going to the Las Vegas NHRA meeting which is one week before Pomona. All the same classes plus the Big Bud Shootout for Top Fuelers. The track & grandstand are excellent, if you go pick Section 1K which is approx 1/8th mile, Row 33, aisle seat. When you book your tickets ask them to keep them for you, they'll give you a reference number and you collect them at the track.

So much to do in Vegas after the racing. Take American Express travellers cheques, if they get lost or stolen you'll get them replaced within 24 hrs.

If you want to go to Pomona l would go for the far side you're nearer the track. Go for Section K, Row 13 and an Aisle Seat. Get to your seat when they're taking the Fuelers & Fuel Funny Cars out of the pits.

If l remember anything else l'll let you know.

With approx 20 Top Fuelers & 20 Fuel Funny Cars in Nitro Alley at Vegas & Pomona, if you want to take photos or shoot videos you'll certainly need an NBC Gas Mask. As worn here by yours truly.

l emailed my Californian drag racing friend James lbusuki who goes to Pomona for all big events. This is the reply l received

Tell Gary if he wants his senses assaulted the short side on Pomona is the best, better than Vegas. Like you said, it's much closer to the track and the 8 foot tin wall keeps the sound from dissapating----lots of groundshaking from those seats!

It all depends on his preferences for viewing. First of all, is K the furthest reserved section? I don't remember because I no longer buy reserved seating. I simply walk to the end at the general seating area (noticeably further than K). That's about a half track.

So if Gary likes starting line action, buy the C-G sections (I think A, B is actually behind the starting line). If he likes the speed and fury, then yes, anything around the mid alphabet.

If Gary likes to sit high, yes, go for 13 at the top. What I like about that is no one is behind you and you can use the wall for a backrest/headrest. The ideal seats in 13 are the 3 or so that are at the very top of the steps----NO seats in front of you! Plus, you can come and go as you please w/o the obligatory "excuse me, pardon me" every time you squeeze by other fans' knees.

If he likes to sit low, (even more noise), then of course, Row 1 is best---no one in front of you and you can lean on the rail during the runs. However, Row 1 isn't good for photos---the guardrail covers too much of the near lane fueler. But ANYTHING on the short side is better than the main grandstand...for race enjoyment OR photos.
