Channel 5 (or should I say five tv) have now stopped showing NHRA drag racing! I have sent an email to ask why although it may have something to do with NHRA being sold etc! On the 5 web site in the q&a section it simply says they have stopped showing it on 5tv but will continue on 5us! But looking at the ad for it, it says highlights only! Looks like we have lost out again chaps.
It was one show and we dont always get to see the event the week after they competed. I am sure they will continue to show it as NHRA has not officially been sold yet, it is in the consultation period at the moment i think.
The NHRA has been sold, well, the Powerade Championship has anyway, plus the rights to everything associated with the Pro classes, the archives, the 4 owned tracks and Wally Parks museum. NHRA themselves will continue to own the Sportsman side of things, as well as National Dragster.
There's an interview with Tom Compton floating around on the net about it somewhere.
Coverage isn't too much of a problem to me as I get ESPN over here and see it live or next day.

All you need is a 23ft dish and aim it at the hubble reflecting the beam of its left side sending the signal back to Russia which then beams the signal to ESPN in Hong Kong who send a email to ESPN in the states and wullah! Live Coverage.

Yes you can get it anywhere in Europe, www.orbit.net broadcasts from Bahrain to Europe and to Australia.
Orbit ESPN broadcasts two hours of qualifying and three hours of eliminations from each NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Event. lt also broadcasts a 30 minute programme called "NHRA Race Day," and another 30 minute programme called "American Dragster" which follows Tony Schumacher, Ron Capps, Erica Enders & Max Naylor thorugh the NHRA POWERade championship.
This system is not cheap, but if you're a drag racing fan like myself then consider buying the system. The 90cm Channel Master Dish (I didn't need planning permission for my dish) l have including brackets, cable, labour, etc cost £494, but you can get cheaper dishes. The Orbit Satellite Receiver including six months subscription to the Mega Package cost £240, but l believe the subscription to the Mega Package has now increased to $50 a month, this included a £50 courier charge from London to Gateshead.
Mr. Ken Marcell of Adila Satellites is the Satellite Company to contact as he was most helpful to me.
Adila Satellites, Adila House, Unit 8, Abercorn Commercial Centre, Manor Farm Road, Wembley, Middlesex, HAO 1YA.
Tel:020 8902 2233. Fax:020 8902 0233.
You can use a smaller satellite dish the closer you live near London, just be sure to get an excellent satellite dealer/installer. Ask for a survey on your property to make sure you get a clear line of sight between the satellite dish and the Atlantic Bird 2 Satellite.
The satellite details are:
Atlantic Bird 2 AB2 @ 8 West
Frequency 10973 MHz _ Horizontal, FEC ¾, 27500 Sym.R.

total cost for a year? gotta be knocking on for a grand first year inc dish etc, I'd rather just fly out and watch one race in person, or even better just go to Bakersfield for the Fuel & Gas Finals
As l live in the NE of England l went for the top of range dish for better reception, but as you live near London you can go for a chaeaper 60cm Triax dish.
l've been to seven NHRA National events. Forget about going to Bakersfield for the Fuel & Gas Finals, it was cancelled as of last year. Even better is the CHRR at Bakersfield, click on www.nhra.com
Orbit ESPN will be broadcasting approx 8 hrs of coverage from the U.S. Nationals.
You also get one hours coverage of Sportsman racing which includes TAD & TAFC.
With Orbit.Net l also get another 20 channels.

LOL, if you can tolerate a "yank" question. Someone in England once told me that you have government people who go around detecting people who receive television signals without paying for a permit/license. Is that true?
Same with satellite TV. Do you need a permit/license?
The licence is to allow you to watch T.V,and listen to the radio, or used to. Same with satellite TV. Do you need a permit/license?
Doesnt matter about whats been broadcast, and what channel its on,or your watching at the time , they call round to check your TV licence.
Its about the BBC (British broadcasting company)and the licence fee goes to them to to pay for prawn sandwiches, crystal champagne and repeats of crap really shows that cost sod all to make.
I would think that 3 miilion or so with Sky tv, would be quite happy never to see a BBC channel again, or pay the fee.

The government now doesn't tend to use detector vans anymore, as TV ownership is at about saturation level. Instead, they maintain a database of unlicensed addresses which they cross reference against lists of customers provided by retailers and subscription service providers, which they can then investigate further.Same with satellite TV. Do you need a permit/license?
Satellite TV isn't exempted, because the BBC still use the feeds to deliver their services. Personally, I think the BBC is pretty good value for money when their output (Dr Who, Rome, Various other Drama, comedy, documentary and news provision is taken into account). Especially when compared with the commercial laden, premium rate phone line funded drivel which ITV seem to think passes as programming these days.
