Robert E. Petersen, an entrepreneur who single-handedly created the largest special-interest publishing company in America, was instrumental in the evolution of the hot-rodding culture, and who, with his wife Margie, realized his dream of establishing an educational museum to pay tribute to the automobile, died Friday, March 23, at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica, Calif. after a short but valiant battle with neuroendocrine cancer. He was 80.

l got interested in drag racing by reading "Hot Rod" & "Car Craft" magazines back in 1965. lf it wasn't for Robert E. Petersen publishing these excellent magazines, l probably would never have discovered our exciting sport.

RIP Bob.

John.

I remember way back at SPR, there was a stall selling (mainly) american hot rod/drag racing magazines, someone asked if they had Autocar, the comment came back "no sir, we dont sell that type of magazine"...

I read some of those publications( The american one's) and they were of very high quality , particularly on the technical side. Unfortunately now most of these magazines have succumbed to mass production low quality razmataz.
