Santa Pod Euro Finals
Discussion
Man that's sad news. I read about there being a medical emergency, but didn't realise that's what had happened. Sadly, as it says on the ticket, motorsport is dangerous. Without wishing to sound insensitive given the circumstances, I'd hate for this sad event to be the catalyst for all sorts of Health and Safety constraints on the sport.

Agreed
That is criminally sad, but as already said, motorsport is dangerous.
Things at the pod are safer now than they have ever been.
Looking at eurodragster, its not hard to work out which pairing had just run, and I think thats shows its even more more of a true accident, coz if was that pairing,AND I AM ONLY MAKING ASSUMPTIONS then you are looking at two VERY experienced and PROFESSIONAL teams.
I ve often watched the crowds stood around a fueller during its pit warm up, and thought to myself, "Have any of you ever seen a blower or rod let go in a fuel motor ?"
These people are standing not more than 10 feet away from a 7000hp NITRO bomb.
I spent Friday and Saturday being engulfed in fuel fumes an loved every minute.Let us not forget, Drag racing is STILL one of the safest sports out there.
My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family of a drag racing fan.

I raced there in pro et this weekend but went out in the 2nd round so we were home before this happend. the event did get completed though as all finals were run.
This is a very sad thing to happen for our sport and the people involved, unfortunatly as in all motorsports accidents do happen i just hope theis doesnt tarnish its usually good safety record.

I don't think it was the engine that let go although I thought I saw a flash and extra smoke. Aren't the blowers strapped down under a kevlar bracket or something to contain a big burst? Wasn't it something to do with the chutes and a boilt or similar letting go at 300 odd mph or nearabouts? I could see debris on the track. I'm not sure about the criminasl angle either, motorsport is dangerous and accidents happen. Wonder if there's public liability cover or not, anybody know. Maybe they can't get that.
I feel quite sorry for the driver and team as well as the family of the bloke who died.

It's all about picking your moment bud.. If you see me with a coffee in my hand.. come say hello!
slinky
i'm sure it is best not to speculate in this situation. But equally, i am sure that once the necessary investigations have been held, then Santa Pod will release a full press staement.
a sad day in drag racing indeed, but it does say 'motorsport is dangerous' on signs at entry, and around the site.

Hey, any excuse to stop for a minute. If you see a pair of feet sticking out from under the car, just give them a kick
