There was quite a few ran that combination, have you got anything else to go on ?
Very little I am afraid, He was around 23 in 1971, ran a 650 Triumph on methanol and was in low 10s high 9s. We got on very well but I cannot remember his name for the life of me. Tall bloke, about 6 feet and black curly hair, we were both regulars at Elvington. I think he also did Santa Pod but that was too rich for me.CammyN said:

Thanks, I did have pics but I used to take slides, then I went to live in Hong Kong and they went as mouldy as can be and were thrown away.Jon Spoards Nostalgia site is very good at naming folk.

One of the pics I really miss is the Healey Square 4 sprint bike, superb machine, another set of pics was when I met up with Jack Findlay on Jurby, he had a works square 4 Suzuki 500 two stroke, his Japanese mechanics were horrified at me taking pics, but I did anyway!
If it was later then I would hasten a guess at it being this guy:

I'm sure he came from Preston way though.

Thanks for looking, but this guy was definitely from York, when we had been to Elvington his mother in York used to put on crisps, sandwiches and jelly and ice cream and pop for anyone that turned up, Transit vans, Cortinas with trailers and RWYB road bikes lined his road! https://www.odgie.com/

Funny that I can remember his times but not his name. He made a big deal of getting into the 9's perhaps that's why.

Thanks, the pics were like a trip down All Our Yesterdays, people and bikes I recognised, especially the style of the bikes, I knew Ray and he gave good advice on compression ratios and cams. I had a 500 Triumph and a shed built 250 sprinter using a Villiers Starmaker, a truly horrible engine that rattled your teeth and stopped all the feeling in your lower arms, even for just a 13 seconds run.I will keep thinking, I know he was friends with a York chopper builder who used Weslake bits, his name I can remember, I will see if I can connect there.
Thank you all for your thoughts, it is appreciated.
