No Prep shootout at Melbourne this weekend
Discussion
What a fantastic weekend that was.
Some initial confusion from groups in the pits and the scrutineering needs to be out of the way at the other end but once all settled in it was a blast.
I can also report that thanks to a lot of hard graft by the volunteer work parties that the entrance roads for spectators and racers to the back of the pits were much improved.
This place is going from strength to strength every meeting!

Yes, a thoroughly enjoyable weekend, I also think that quarter mile running would be a bonus for the next meeting.
I took me a while to come round to running the 1/8th but now i love it for what it is. From a spectator point of view it doesnt really make much difference in my opinion.I was also sceptical about no prep but the track is coming round with more rubber being layed and everyone is learning to adjust their cars to suit.
Sadly there is still a lot of money needed to lay enough tarmac to allow the braking area beyond the quality 1/4 mile racing surface we have in place to allow 1/4 mile racing. Please keep supporting the events, donating if you can and we will get there eventually. It may be a couple of years but there will be lots of other improvements such as a club house and bar being built which i am looking forward to.
My first time there, I was a bit dubious and concerned about the lack of grip on the track to start with but got the hang of it after a couple of runs.
Really enjoyed it, although I feel I've been spoiled by the conditions and facilities at the Pod Photo courtesy of the mad Welshman
Hopefully things can only keep getting better

Another great weekend was had at Melbourne with great racing followed by the annual cackle fest in honour of Kasey RIP, a superb auction raising £2300 towards the fund for further track improvements, then an awesome local band to round the night off.
It was a real shame that most of the 'no prep' racers didn't show due to worrying over the weather forecast.
Most locals know not to rely on the forecasts as Melbourne always seems to have its own micro climate and sure enough despite heavy rain in other areas it stayed dry and quite sunny all day Saturday with only a few showers on Sunday but still plenty racing took place.
I hope they learn to come along next time whatever the forecast says!

I have a ticket for Saturday 18 September for Melbourne's next meeting . Because I'm an idiot , I didn't check to see if I had anything else on . I have - so my ticket is available to whoever wants it . It cost me 15 quid , but I don't want anything for it - although it'd be good if a charity donation were made .
