An annual ‘biggie’ there is this Sunday/Monday and I’ve warmed to it over the last few years. Spoiled by the pace and calibre of Santa Pod from an early age it took me a while to adjust to the slower and even laid back pace at the under exposed and often overlooked York Raceway.
It’s almost like discovering a secret off road drag race meeting by word of mouth!
It’s grass roots drag racing with a good atmosphere, camping and catering is available, worth popping in if you can get there.
Off the A1079 York to Hull road, somewhere near Seaton Ross and Melbourne.

I haven't been to York Dragway since I was crewing with the 'B' Sting Wildbunch team, we always had a ball up there, great atmosphere and nice people. I'm working at the Stripe 21 Open Sports Nats at SCR this weekend, must put a trip up there on the to-do list though.

I'll be in the rwyb on monday.

I may be a little optimistic hoping for a few runs in. The rwyb track time isn't what it used to be frown

Just got back from a super day of close and exciting racing. The Street Racer Championship was great fun as ever, graced by a stunning mid eight second Subaru (the eventual winner) and an absolutely staggering stock looking Mk3 Escort (right down to the steel rims and tyres) that was clicking off nine second quarters with ease.
Robin Read got down to a 7:36 at 186mph that was worth the trip on its own.
Lovely friendly place, its been far too long, wont be as long again.
Within 100 miles tomorrow? I heartily recommend it.

Robin ran a couple more of those 7.3s today and Julian Webb put in a 6 second run clicking off early.
Some damn good close racing again today.
Great laid back atmosphere as usual, the place is ramshackle by Pod standards but the easy access around the track for viewing, good commentary and the very good organisation make for enjoyable events there. They even sell an ale called 'Fast As F**k' in the bar which also come recommended.

The weather was so good yesterday that I returned for a second day and it was delightful. Some wonderful heavy metal and the astonishing Postman Pat baby dragster; add in a friendly atmosphere and near constant action and I really do wonder where so many of our local petrolheads are .The crowd is never large here and I really do not understand why more people go along to a breakfast meet (nothing wrong with them of course but they don't exactly quicken the pulse) than apparently want to see a car doing 160mph plus from a standing start whilst making the most gorgeous noise in the process.

My RWYB was OK but bloody hell it was slippery on Sunday morning; opposite lock required in second and third - not a problem I usually have and my reason for being so pathetically slow. Apart from being crap anyway

Got to say that despite being well over a hundred miles further away than the Pod, I'm more than happy to drive the extra distance. The atmosphere is party like after the racing stops and everyone says "hello" like they know you. And the fact that you have to 'drive' the strip makes it a bit more challenging/entertaining.

Andy Forrest's Subaru was epic, as was that little blue Escort. Street tyre racing is a done deal for the 4x4s at York. Looking forwarding to see Ivan's fully loaded 6000lb Silverado AWD quad cab dig deeper into the tens next time out. Maybe he (or rather his missus, Carol) will win Street Racer next year lol.

Congrats on the double win Arnie! Hope the Audi didn't suffer too much running those back to back finals.

Here's my gallery from the weekend smile

Cheers Arnie!

As Derek has said, the slingshot is by the Postman Pat Van team, Tom Armitage and David Taylor. They're doing a great job promoting their work via Bangshift and Dragzine. You can find out more via their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/postmanpatvan
