Commercial right
Discussion
So the commercial rights to the FIA championship are going out to competitive tender. Am I the only one that sees that as being a bad move? I just can't see how it's going to result in a bigger and better championship. I'd rather just see Trakback and Speedgroup (and probably others that I'm not aware of) settle their differences and work together towards improving the sport.

It will be interesting times for sure. I hope someone who has a large knowledge of the sport and can take it forward will take it on. Looking from the outside in, there seems to have been issues between trakbak and speedgroup over the last few years (whether or not that's the case, it's certainly the impression I get) Edited by Tet on Saturday 29th June 11:26

I wonder what the reasoning is behind this move? Either way I think KB has done a Steller job of getting the sport to where it is, I hope going forward who ever takes over can build on that success
I can't see the FIA being overrun with offers.
I don't see how the commercial rights of the championship are that valuable and can deliver a decent financial return to anyone. At present the racers have to pay for most of it anyway.
Hang on a minute............increasing the cost burden on the racers....thats how you make money out of it!!

All the actual FIA announcement says is:
'A selection process will be considered to source a promoter for the FIA European Drag Racing Championship'.
This just means that they are implementing a formal tender process as per other professional motorsports.
Might be prompted by lobbying from other interested parties, or you could just take it as a recognition that drag racing in Europe has achieved a certain level of maturity in the eyes of the FIA.
