I wonder if the proposed planning permission for wind turbines for " podington airfield" ( 9 off) will affect the drag racing at all.

There have been a lot of proposals over the years for wind farms near Santa Pod. It isn't anything new...

They've actually been granted approval for a 3 turbine farm by the looks of things. Downgraded from the initial 15 turbines first tabled 9-10 years ago.

This is the map with locations of the turbines.
Not sure in what relation they are to the strip, although it looks like the strip is in the middle.

Would be ideal if they couple place them behind the strip, fireforce can give them a boost

On the bright side they won't build any houses next to them!

Wind turbines supplying power to the track/pits? Sure is windy enough most of the time so seems like an ideal spot ;p

Overlaying that map on Google maps it looks like it is in the pitside camp site:

Doubt it will use up much space once it is installed to be honest and the rotors are generally high enough to avoid giving impromptu hair cuts smile I don't think they will affect the racing either.

Won't be very popular with people wanting to pitch tents (temporary canvas dwellings)! (and be assured they'll remain in place).

blah JC

The word 'Disused' on the map three times around the site, oh how I laughed! - think some pen pusher needs to wake up or get out more biggrin

Wind turbines do not run constantly, only if the energy is required, if an agreement was made that were not run during events I cant see it being a huge issue in the long run.

Like I said, the councils round here are really trying to fit wind turbines wherever they can and are failing often. I know of a few more plans that have failed nearby due to my job and the potential affect it has on the surrounding environment.

I assume the pod own the land that said turbines will be going on and therefore will profit from them being put up?

Farmer would own the land I presume.

The only thing I think it could affect is the air displays...not allowed to go within a certain altitude I would assume
