good XC tyre recommendation :)

Hi guys,

my Orange hardtail desperately needs a new front tyre and looking to replace with something half decent for around the £30 mark. has to be an all rounder really, however, it will be used at places like afan argoed, coed y brenin, cwmcarn etc as well as on road. a friend of mine has panaracer fire XC pro on his scott and says they're pretty decent, any thoughts on them?

also, what are these tyres which don't run with innertubes (or am i making that up??) what are the benefits? decreased chance of punctures?

Tubeless = no more pinch punctures despite lower pressure for a better ride
You can either buy a dedicated tubless rum or else Google "ghetto tubeless" and take it from there

I have run tubeless for 5y and have had zero punctures
I once picked an enormous thorn out of my tyre and the sealant I run inside just closed it as I watched
Truly magic!!

And to finish I discovered Maxxis High Rollers a couple of years ago and really rate them too
I have a sticky on the front and a regular one on the back

I used to run a mud tyre in winter and semi slick in summer
Now I just use the High Rollers all the time

fire xc pro outer knobblies are quite soft and dont bite in that hard, they have a tendancy to wash out. given the weather at the moment, something like a nobby nic might be ideal for trail centres. xc pros are nice in the mud but arent great in fast dry weather.

A Schwalbe recommendation from me, Smart Sam Evo's, more grip than the Fast Freds or Rocket Rons for the trails and the dry weather and roll very well on the tarmac, not quite as aggressive as the nobbly nics and nice & light at less than 500g for the 2.1 version.

As others have said if you want to run tubeless you can get a kit like stans no tubes kit and use any tire you want, personally, I like the supersonic tubes from Continental at only 100g they weigh less than a no tubes set up if you use rim strips and fluid.

A lot of people I ride with like the Panaracer Fire XCs and one guy is raving about his Schwalbe Alberts. eXCeption series High Rollers are supposed to be good too.
