What a beautiful day. And yet my body spent yesterday and friday screaming at me that it was ill via and needed rest, but today I said no more! I can't let an entire good weather weekend go without something..

I picked out a route in the direction I dont normally go - rather than the flat spinning of the levels, its the mendips today... not far at all, after all, I am ill. so 11 miles. The climbs will be refreshing in the cool autumnal air.

800ft of climbing in 2.5 miles (up to 12% grade) later I was ready to vom. I didn't give in and slugged my way to the top at a mighty pace of 6mph. At least the way home was a nice wake up with the views over the levels and swooshing down through a village at a pace which may have had the local constabulary tsking.

I'm going to revisit that when I'm well and find out just how grim it really is.

Anyone else out enjoying the sunshine?

No, today I'm a total failure. Woke up as usual at 6am for my Sunday ride. Had a really nice 30 mile route mapped out with my brother and his friends. But the headache that started nagging me before I went to bed last night was now a full-on road-drilling machine, which led to my cancelling via text. Apparently no-one else turned up either. I must admit the very cold weather this morning probably influence a few of our team but not me - I have only recently bought all the warm clothing I need for this. I was really looking forward to it. I had my kit and bike ready in the hall too.

Got to wait another week now. frown

I too managed a staggering 11 mile ride at a leisurely pace. It was a bit fresh this morning but could only go the short distance as i had to take my little girl to a kiddies party but at least i got out.

I set off on a 35 mile attempt yesterday but the 20mph northerly wind soon put me off and it turned into a 20 mile local bimble hehe

6 miles to work, 6 miles back - having one of those days where even lifting a cup of tea was taking a lot of effort, so I'm chuffed I still beat my target time home.

11 miles around Llandegla, then back to the cafe to meet the wife and children for bacon butties, a prefect way to spend a Sunday morning in the sun.

17 miles through Epping Forest yesterday. First time there, loved it. We would have done twice that but wanted to get back to watch the grand prix.

Epping has a good mix of fire roads and single tracks. We were using Motion X so felt confident to just head off on any single track we saw. We found some belters. Hit 37mph down a deserted fire road.

We saw a couple of groups riding around and might get up earlier to try and hook up with one, next time we go.

Yep. I've more or less got the gears setup on my mountain bike again now so I went for a half hour blast in the local woods. Got I'd forgotten how much fun that is - it's months since my last mtb ride. More to the point, I'd forgotten just how different it is having all the extra movement of a mountain bike on loose trails as opposed to a rigid-frame hybrid on tarmac.

In the grand scheme of things it was a very average side on short, flat-ish trails, but compared to road riding it felt like nailing it through Coed y Brenin.
