First time at Glentress today and it was brilliant! Only problem being after about 1.5 hours in, during rough descents my fingers were cramping up really badly to the extent I had to get a mate to straighten them out at one point. Really horrible pain! Mostly in my middle and ring finger, Anyone else suffered this and what know possible fixes?

Ooh nice, we did Glentress last weekend. What did you do there?

Did you drink enough fluids? I find my calf muscles (and middle toes, oddly) tend to cramp up if i'm dehydrated.

It could be nerve related causing the muscle fatigue/cramp.

Was this only on one hand? or both? did you get pins and needles as well as cramps?

I only ask as I have nerve damage on my right ulnar nerve and I get cramps on my last too fingers on that side. It was much worse when I used to wear a watch on when riding too.

The ring & middle finger are controlled by the median nerve so you might be compressing it when riding either from a watch or your just wired that way at your wrist, the constant requirements on the ride could basically be causing a short out.

I done the red and blue run a few times, and the jump park. Brilliant fun! Will be going again a few times before the weather gets really bad! I was well hydrated and didn't have pins and needles and it was on both hands. Could it be down to simply holding the bars with a death grip due to it being my first time on those trails? It was excruciating.

Specialized Body Geometry website said:
Body Geometry Gloves:
Designed to protect what's inside. BG Gloves feature a soft gel pad that sits between your palm heel and the bar. This innovative pad reduces pressure on the ulnar nerve, alleviating numbness in your second and third fingers.
Etc etc.
Could be this??

Ulnar nerve is the little & outside half of the ring finger, median nerve is the middle two. The nerves in your hand specifically the Ulnar & Median can be a common issue for cyclists as the exposed nature and route through the wrist and constant impact or vibration absorbed through the hands/wrists causes compression and a reduction in nerve activity, when this occurs you'll get pins and needles/numbness first followed by lack of blood flow due to reduced nerve stimulation which will result in cold fingers and cramp.

It is a great place, just got to make sure you don't go too mental on the last blue section with all the jumps...

...especially if you're on a £2.5k bike that's not even yours!

The camera was on the bike in front so no footage but I've been told by witnesses it was quite spectacular to see someone manage a double barrel-roll on a mountain bike hehe
