Where best to sell a bike?

Following on from my thread on buying a roadbike to get fit. Where is best to sell my Mountain Bike? It's a Specialized Rockhopper Comp (maybe) and is around 2 years old.

Would ebay be best or is there a better place?

... oh and I've barely ridden it, and even then it was along the Avon Cycleway (along the Avon between Bristol and Pill)... embaressingly low miles. It's like one of those lovely cars you see in the classifieds with unbelievably low miles on them!

If you've got a brand that people off the street know, you'll get top top money for it. Specialized are just that.

You should get the 10% back in the sell price though, nowhere offers the traffic ebay does.

I think it was £750 so realistically I'm looking for around the £470 mark. I hope this is realistic, I'll pop a PH Classifieds as up for it once I have some piccies. If I don't get any interest after a week then I'll stick it on ebay.

I'd rather sell it here than on ebay

+1, bought (and lost) quite a few ebay bikes recently for me, missus + kids

If you want to sell it, put a good ad, plenty of pics and no reserve on. Do it now as prices will soften as we enter autumn

Another thing to consider, that has pushed down the prices of second hand bikes, is the Cycle To Work Scheme. You can get around 40% off the cost of a new bike, second hand prices need to reflect this.

Advise me on a price that you expect to get if you were selling? I have no idea what it's worth.

advertise it on bikeradar and singletrackworld, put it up for £450 and accept offers.

they are a cheeky bunch and you might not get many early takers but its a solid bike, well specced and from a reputable brand. put loads of pictures up showing the good bits and any bad bits. the problem is unless you get a local buyer or are prepared to travel to deliver, you are going to have to get a box from a bike shop, dismantle it a bit and pack it up and send it through the post... which wont be cheap... so if someone local offers you £350 weigh this up against the guy 300 miles away offering £400...

I'm not sure why you want people to talk down your asking price on a forum you're trying to sell your bike but. .

It depends on where you live as most bikes are collected by the buyer. £400+ is the kind of price you'd expect for a mint '07 rockhopper pro if yours is a disc and you are somewhere that loads of people can easily drive to i'd expect £300-400 max. It's ebay though so you never really know what you'll get for it.

Have a look at completed sales of rockhoppers there are quite a few '07 bikes and even some rockhopper disks, you'll see the kind of price they have gone for. I didn't see any that were anywhere near £400 let alone £470.
