All I want to do is ride.

I've done well over 100 miles this week, mostly in Richmond Park it has to be said, as I'm waiting to do my first club run (hopefully next sunday). And when I'm done all I want to do is get back in there on the bike and beat my self up again! My back pain has got a lot less obvious, I think partly down to getting some decent bib shorts.

Anyone else like this? It's all come about since I've realised how much fitter running has made me, and how much better at climbing I am than the chap I go out with, and to be honest than I should be given my size.

Just a shame the weather is about to get st and dark earlier frown

I know exactly what you mean, got asked to do a 10 mile charity run yesterday and with cycling to it and back with a bit of a detour ended up doing 58 miles. On a giant reign! Can't wait to get my road bike at the end of the month off the cycle to work scheme, as much as I love the offroad stuff it does feel good to just get out and put in some miles, especially as all the hills are a car ride away for using the full sus.

I have a similar problem. I did nearly 60 miles yesterday on the brompton. However when I woke up today I felt like I had been arse raped with a kitchen knife.

With time your behind will get used to it, I cant tell you how good a decent pair of bib shorts are!

Out for 3 laps of Richmond Park three times this week, so that will be a decent workout, feel myself getting thinner already!

Heading over from the city tonight, PM me if you want to join in. I'm picking a mate up in Wandsworth, but not much of a detour...

I'm trying to build my rides without drafting, so I prefer to go on my own if I can. But if you see a chap on a white BMC with Giant highroad team kit without a helmet, that'll be me.

What time and what you going to be riding?

I know what you mean about drafting, no offense taken. I've seen some of those BMC's in Evans, they look lovely! I'll keep a look out for you, but my priorities for spotting things are:

1. Hot girls leant over in V neck tops.
2. Deer if they're very close to the side of the road.
3. Traffic etc.
4. Bike porn.

I should get there about 6pm, and will be going round for just under an hour and a half I guess.

I'm huge, and on a biege Saracen with black forks, wearing pink, black and whit shorts, a baggy grey t shirt and a rucksack.

If it's flat, I'll be towing a small fella on a Trek, if it's up hill, I'll be trying to catch him, and if it's down hill he'll be trying to catch me.

19mph with no drafting is a pretty good lick.

Just as a matter of reference, how far is it round the park? Hopefully when things wrap up here I'll be coming back to Raynes park so I'll see you guys out there but it will be next summer.

Yeh its not bad, problem is its often windy and to really go all out you need few cars, or the balls to overtake them.

Its 6.8 miles I think.

That's a decent length loop. My park over here is only 3.5 miles per loop but is traffic free after 7am on weekends and given the general driving standards here low traffic is paramount.

The upside is it is traffic free and has a water fountain for bottle refills but the downside is I do get rather sick of the lap. In preparation for a century in October so far my longest ride is 70 miles, so 20 laps plus geting to and from the park and that I averaged just over 17mph inc refill stops. At the end of those 20 laps I think I knew pretty much every twig on the road !

6.8 miles sounds about right.

I became a fan of night rides in the winter. Once the deer have gone to sleep, there were only a few other riders, and it was closed to cars. Don't tell everyone though.

I intend to get a set of decent lights and do some night laps as and when it gets dark.

Well, went in there, quickly realised my legs were not as fresh as first thought hehe

First lap was 20 mins dead, second lap (painful) was 21 mins, and after that I called it a day, the wind was doing my head in and my back was aching.

Still, at that pace I managed to average 19.1 mph which I think without wind and fresh legs would easily be 20 mph, so I'm happy. And tbh at the minute the tyres I have on the bike weigh a fking ton, so I'm hopful of a low 50 mins time for three laps at some point this year, will need a clear park though, and NO fkING WIND!!!

Didn't see you Louie, did you see me?

Wimbledon to Weybridge via Kingston & Hampton was hell this evening.

The headwind was constant, felt like a 14 mile climb.

Barely cracked an hour. 15 mins quicker heading in this morning.

I got down into the drops and got my head out of the wind as much as possible but it really took it out of me.

Richmond Park is terrible for wind though, its just so open.

Didn't see you I'm afraid old bean, I kept an eye out. Maybe we were going the same direction round, but on opposite sides of the park.

If it's 6.8 miles a lap, that's 20.4 for three laps, so obviously 20.4mph average would get you under the hour. To to 20.4mph in under 55 mins, you would need an average of 22.3 mph, which is a bit of a difference, but not impossible. Nice target.
