Hope you had fun coming down! One of those where the climb isn't worth it for the descent IMO. I reckon Garburn Pass and High Street are better.
The decent was good and just about worth the effort of getting up. We rode up Grisedale and then rode/carried up from the south to the top of Helvellyn. Then down into Glenridding on the long track with switchbacks (north of keppel cove) - made for a long and fast decent. Smoking brakes for some by the end! Good fun.The views from the top would make it even better.
I've not ridden Garburn Pass - one for another time.
We rode High Street a few years ago in the wet - having slogged to get to the top we then had to pedal most of the way down as it was so boggy - we weren't that impressed! however, in dryer conditions i guess it could be great.
Garburn - park at the end of the road in Kentmere and ride up the steep side (it is just ridable) then drop down the Troutbeck side - fast, moderately technical descent. You can complete the loop round the South on bridleways or combine it with something else. Alternatively, ride back up the descent and drop down the steep side - more technical.
