Converting drop bars to flat bars.

I fancy changing my old Giant OCR (2000) from a dropped bar to a flat bar for the winter training, is it possible to use the current Campag Mirage shifting with more modern thumshifters?
I also fancy converting the old style stem to a more modern, integrated headset but I fear that may push the price up just a bit too much for what is a knackered old, soon to be winter only bike!

If the bike has got a quil stem then you'll probably need new forks with a longer steerer to allow for the stem to be clamped on.
You'll need to match the cable pull of the shifters to that needed by the front and rear mechs. I don't know what the pull ratio is so you'll need to find that out yourself.
Swapping the drop bars for flat bars is easy. Depending on where you normally position your hands on the handlebars you may need a longer stem.
The only other consideration is the brakes. Side pull road callipers can feel very wooden using 'V' brake levers.
