Having spent the last few years racing, I feel that next year I would like to take on this challenge. A few guys from my club fancy it too.

So, did anyone here do it this year, and can you offer advice n where to stay, how much it cost, etc etc

I did it in 2006 and hired a ski chalet in Alpe d'Huez right by the finish but if I do it again I'd prefer to stay in Bourg because it gets pretty cold at 1800m at night and they don't heat the chalets in summer. I also had to ride down to the start in semi-darkness and freezing air instead of doing it in the evening when it's warmer & sunnier and you can see the stragglers still coming in.

There are quite a few hotels in Bourg or if you're camping, I've also stayed at Camping Le Piscine right at the foot of the climb which was only a few Euros a night.
