In a couple of threads I've read posts where people say PM me for details of a great LBS which seems a little strange as I'm sure there's no 'name and praise' ban on here.

Might be worth some sort of sticky about great service (although that might be too subjective) but in the meantime can somebody recommend a great shop for servicing in Brighton please? Got an old bike I need to bring back to life...

You are spoiled for choice in brighton. Depending on the style of bike you have will determine where the best place to take it is.
For a specialist shop I would go to Baker Street Bikes.
For mass market, Sydney Street Bikes.
Commuters would go to Freedom Bikes.
Old Bangers to Grandads bike shop in the open market.

All the above offer very good service and advice.

I'm a bit out of touch with servicing as I tend to do it all myself but I know the mechanic Alan at Freedom Bikes on George St. (between St. James St and Edward St) is a good guy.

There is also a servicing only place that will pick up your bike, take a look at their site:
http://www.southcoastbikes.co.uk/

I've not used either of these for servicing but Freedom would be where I'd go first.

Really? They specialise in full on downhill rigs and custom builds as far as I know. They are a Brompton stockist of course though.

Had a card throught the door for South coast Bikes. They look pretty good & have thespecial bike section that offers a down to the bare metal rebuild.

Also had good dealings with Syds Bikes & syds 2.

Nice one, would be interested to know how the bikes turn out.

I asked South Coast Bikes to service 2 old mountain bikes which have never seen any love or care before. They picked them up on Wednesday, did their magic and returned them the next evening gleaming.

I don't mean this to read like an advert but it was simplicity to organise as they collect and deliver free around Brighton and Hove. The quote they gave when picking up the bikes was spot on and very reasonable. They did a full service and sorted out some original build mistakes as well as fitting new tyres for our triathlon training.

Definitely would recommend.
