Some daft t
t on an MTB decided to pull out and sidswipe me.... I was over half a lane away at aldgate tube and he cut across without looking behind, if I had been a Taxi/Motorcycle/Bus he's have been road pizza.
Instead he smacked in to me, I went with it and managed to keep upright (just) whilst he panicked and went over his handlebars. We both stopped (I wanted to make sure he was ok as he did really go bang... he had a grazed up chin from kissing tarmac but aside from that he was ok.
He apologised and said it was his fault immediately but it reminds me of that thread the other week about numpties on bicycles being a danger... regardless of overtakes or any other kind of similar manoeuvre - on a bike you should be checking behind you before ANY major manoeuvre in to the carriageway or around other vehicles.
I luckily had enough room to cope... if we'd both been caught like that with traffic moving and one carriageway further across then the whole incident could have cost both of us our lives (or at least a limb or two)
P.S It was my first ride in the PH jersey
fits lovely, if anything a relatively loose fit for a cycle jersey imho (bearing in mind I'm about a 42" chest and ordered the L which says 40" on it). very comfy though so it's a keeper for sure.

There are some cretins about on bikes. Chap was huffing along on a nice wide road with the odd parked car the other day. He had a plus speed of about half a mile an hour on the van in front of me, and was trying to overtake it on the nearside.
He stayed in the van's blind spot for a good while. On coming up to a parked car, he decided the best thing to do would be to bash on, still trying to undertake this van. Because he appeared to have absolutely no road sense, and was unsighted of the oncoming traffic - not to mention the parked cars on the other side of the road - he failed to appreciate that a van, whose driver couldn't see him, was unlikely to move to the offside to let him through.
In fact he waited till the van, he, the oncoming traffic, and the two parked cars were five abreast on the road to take his evasive action...... which amounted to thumping the van on its rear quarter and bellowing loudly, as only a panicked ginger cyclist can do. Unsurprisingly, the van driver didn't take too kindly to this chump doing his best to throw himself under the nearside rear wheel of the van, and a brief exchange of words ensued. This ended when the cyclist went off down a side street and knocked on a door, and the van driver parked up at the end of the road looking menacing.
Is it just me or does the partial segregation off traffic (cycle lanes sharing the carriageway) encourage this type of behaviour?
PS. I usually cycle to work, so am not one of the standard cyclist bashing PHers. This guy really was riding like a cretin.
