puncture problems

Hi i keep getting punctures,but its not from problems with the tyre.
From the location of the hole it seems to be from the rim side.
The spokes look ok would an extra layer of rim tape help.
Any ideas???

If you take your tyre off the rim completely then remove the rim tape. Run your finger gently round the inside of the rim and hopefully you'll be able to identify any sharp bits. File/sand down any sharp edges and then run your finger right round the inside of the tyre to check for thorns

Also worth keeping an eye on tyre pressures in case you're getting pinch flats

On one set of clinchers I had the rim tape looked poor and in a couple of cases split over the spoke holes, is this what you're seeing ? The sharp edges of the rims were exposed and the first I knew was when it punctured. The spokes were well recessed so it wasn't due to spoke heads.

All I did was cover the rim tape with some strips of duct tape (all I had, in a hurry, excuses, excuses) and that worked quite well. Or at least I didn't get any more rim-side punctures and it looked solid when I stripped the wheels after winter.

Thats what I always use for rim tape, you split the tape in half and then can get two layers and not end up with a squint roll of duct tape.
Its much cheaper than using rim tape, no heavier and does the job just the same.
