Just read this, a small result against the bike thieves....

Outstanding! Great to see some justice every so often. It's stupid really that the Police aren't doing more to stop this though. If People out there know what is going on then why can't the police know? They should be watching the place and nicking the lot of them. It can't be that difficult?
A girl in a MTB club that I used to ride with had a fairly / very expensive bike stolen. Canondale I think.
Her insurance paid out and a few months later she was on the start line of an event and the guy next to her was on her old bike. She recognised it from the particular parts I think.
She confronted him and he admitted that it was "too cheap" and that he "had concerns about its origin". Think he paid £600 from memory.
He hung around until the police arrived and she proved it was hers but of course now belonged to her insurers. It was taken away and he got nothing back.
Suddenly it was not that cheap was it?
Moral: If you buy ANYTHING that you think could be stolen you are scum and deserve to have all of your stuff stolen. If people could not sell stolen stuff they would not steal it in the first place.
Good result for her though despite not actually getting her original bike back.

Now that the police know where stolen bikes are sold and who does it I take it that they parked a van with a camera in it nearby and nicked the gang?!?

Parked up, confronted the crunt (Eastern European, no speeky Inglish) and grabbed the bike back. Sadly the wonkers ran off down a nearby lane without me having given him a proper slap as I didn't want to let go of the bike again with his mate there.
I then called 999 and had a ridiculous 20 minute conversation with the twottish cop before they said they'd send a patrol car if one was available (the shltfaced theives had gone down a lane with ploughed fields on either side and only one place they would ever end up). Obviously they got away.
Police rang me back the following afternoon to ask how they could help...

Years back my old claud butler mtb got knicked while still locked to my car bike rack..
To cut a long story short they found the bike in the back garden of a known crackhouse in bristol after the car it had been knicked in almost ran over an off-duty plod and they found the car after seaching for the car at the "usual addresses"... they were caught red handed with the stolen bike trying to get the lock off, and also the stolen car, after the saw some oik getting his cap from the car.
What happened? Nothing.
You have to wonder what you need to do to get a conviction these days if being found in possession of a knicked bike and knicked car isn't enough...
