Hi all, looking to get a new bike, got a cross country full sus for weekend blasts & looking to add a hardtail for getting about town.

What do you reckon the best one I could get fot around a grand?

Cheers

Steel for hardtail in my opinion, hows about a Orange P7?

I have recently bought a P7 pro & love it. Haven't used my full sus since (llandegla, CYB & Peaks)

If you just need one for getting around town, I'd get a charge duster (entry model, or single speed) - both are good bikes, much cheaper than 1k and have a rigid fork (no need for suspension in town).

... add a pair of slicks (or something like specialized nimbus tyres) and bingo

If you can find one in store id say the Boardman Pro 2008 from Halfords. For £900 the spec is incredibly high....

Thanks for all the advice guys, really appreciate it.

Went shopping last night and ended up blowing the budget a wee bit.

Ended up going for a 2009 Lapierre Pro Race 300, lovely bike!

Looks like I'll be doing a few cross country runs this year..

Thanks again

Check out the Genisis range of hardtails. And those by On One - although Brant is leaving the company to go to CRC???? And those by Dialled Bikes.

My mate just picked up an '08 Orange Evo8 for £750...niice UK friendly ally frame, Recon Race air fork, Raceface cranks, XT goers, Juicy3 stoppers, Kenda Nev/Bluegroove, can't remember what wheels but all nicely finished too, lock ons etc, just nothing that jumps out at you and makes you think "that needs changing".

Identical to the 09 I belive apart from colour/stem/bars...

Another vote for Genesis bikes. The Altitued 20 looks pretty decent http://www.genesisbikes.co.uk/bike/altitude_20
