Thinking of swapping to road tyres as I do 50% onroad and 50% on canalpaths

How much difference do they make ?

How well do road MTB tyres (not slicks) cope with shallow mud ..

also how narrow can I go on a rim that currently has a 1.95" tyre - I assume the narrower the tyre the less rolling resistance

I've experimented with a few options.

Proper road tyres in a MTB size are great if the roads are smooth, but I think the ultimate setup is semi slicks pumped up to 60psi. The difference in rolling resistance isn't 'that' much, and you benefit from the extra tread if you pop off road.

Saves faffing around changing tyres for when you go off road too.

Makes a huge differnce re MTB tyres

semi slicks cope well and were letting em crusise at about 16 to 17mph... now swapped to Continental Ultra Gator Duraskin Tyre which prob give a nother 1-2 mph...

I don't use my commuting MTB off-road so stuck a set of 26x2.0 Schwalbe Big Apples on there. Definitely worth several mph over knobblies.
