Hello PH, I need some help choosing tyres. I require them for: I cycle 2.8 Miles every weekday (hard surface) and therefore need them to be durable. Hopefully when the weather gets better I shall be doing some more dirt riding, so need them to handle well (Berm well also since my current ones don't).

Basic criteria are:

26" diameter.
2.3(ish) wide.
Durable.
Handles well.
Less than £15 each.

Apologies if there is any ambiguity in this post.

Sounds like a wide semi-slick is what you're after

e.g.

I can't imagine an instance where you would want a 2.35 tyre but need it semi-slick.... width is all about getting max grip but semi-slick is all about less rolling resistance and speed.

Wouldn't something like a 2.0 or similar specialized nimbus be a better option?

I do like that choice of tyre, but is that price for 1 or 2? I'm just wondering if it's a reakky expensive tyre or something (: And I currently have 2.1 tyres, and...they don't grip as well as the continental vapor 2.3" that my brother has on his. Also another thing, they will need to grip well on hard surface when it's wet (:

You can't have everything Ren and tyres aren't cheap.

No, I realise that. I just need to find the best compromise that I can for the budget I'm on (:

I would say go for something that is 2.1, I use them fine on berms and anything bigger is more a pain to cycle on the road. Had 1.8s before and landed on my head going round a berm with them so I wouldn't go smaller than 2.1! Haven't really tried many tires, and a lot depends if you'll need mud clearing and all that. I use Panaracer's Fire XC which are great, but beyond your set budget. Look at chainreactioncycles or wiggle and see if you can get sale ones?
