Time for a new front XC tyre - rear is always a Larsen TT but haven't managed to find a front that I feel sorted with. Needs to cope with sandy, loose, rocky material rather than gloopy stuff.

Have tried Python (crap), Larsen TT, Crossmark, High Roller, some Geax thing and another one I can't remember the name of.

What recommendations are there???

Have a look at Intense System 4 I run these on my All Mountain bike and they have a performed well. also run Panaracer Fire XC Pro's 2.1 and they have been a very good all round tyre.

Not sure about the Panaracer Fire's, mine went out of shape very quickly.

A buddy of mine has just got some Michelin duel compound jobs (the grey and black ones?) reckons they are pretty good.

I've always liked Conti's range of tyres. They're a really good all rounder - the diamond pattern ones seem to be the better design though (vapours). They don't excel in any one area, but they work well on all surfaces.

STW rated the Kenda Nevegal/BlueGroove combo their favourite. I have yet to try it myself though.

A couple of my friends really rate High Roller DHs and I'm tempted some 2.1 High Roller XCs for my upcomming weekend in North Wales smile At £13 each (wire bead) they seem pretty cheap!

I use High Roller *XC's* and I've found them pretty useless around N.Wales (e.g. Llandegla, Penmachno etc) they're quite prone to slipping IMO, I'm tempted to change them for something like these beasties:

Willing to give Michellin a try since riding a friends 222 with Comp 24's the grip seemed sensational when compared to the High Rollers another friend was using on his Patriot.

I was about to get some highrollers on speical from chainreactions when they sold out (i needed them that week for easter).

Ended up geting a pair of nevigals for £50 from the local bikeshop. (£33retail) And am pritty happy with them, although having read some thread like this and riding cannock in the pouring, i can see why people people put bluegrooves up front and would deffonatly be up for a bluegroove next time.

I've run High Rollers on the Meta as they came with them, and I'm pretty smitten - they work well.

XC wise they're a bit hefty, but they grip well, and drift reliably.

Get dual ply if you want to throw yourself down a french mountain though (as my mate found out to his cost)...

Ran High Rollers Dual Ply, Downhill in the Alps last year awesome tyre IMO.

Got some non-dual ply High Rollers to go on a long travel hardtail I am building up over the next couple of months.

I've only really used three tyres off road, Fire XC Pro, Intense 4's and the High Rollers like them all and wouldn't hesitate to have any of them again.

Excellent - definitely worth knowing that biggrin

Have some Conti Digga's currently seeing service on the Supreme, but may aqquire some High Roller Dual Plys for the Meta (as its being used over there for the actual Mega race)

Whoops I think my bad use of grammar has made out that I was doing all the downhill courses in the Alps when the reality was more XC based riding. It should say

Ran High Rollers, Dual Ply, Downhill tyres, in the Alps last year awesome tyre IMO.

They are a heavy tyre though.

No worries. Pretty much everyone out there was mumbling out dual ply, and so weight (when you think about it) is nothing against not getting a puncture at 30mph!

Interesting that a lot of people like the High Rollers - I've just not been able to get on with them. Maybe its the terrain, or maybe its the bike, the rider, ah whatever, we all like different stuff!

Will have a nose around for some of the other recommendations - see how I get on.

Same situation as yourself, would like to hear some other tyre recommendations as it'd be nice to try something else. A mate of mine uses Bontrager Jones XC tyres and hes pretty impressed by them which could be something worth looking into perhaps.
