So, will your fitness naturally improve when it's summer then?

As a Petrolhead i'd say stick to the VFR, but as a keen cyclist i'd say you'll do it if it kills you an tell everypone that asks it was a piece of piss. Only you know whether it's possible, it's perfectly possible for me for instance, but i might be fitter than you.

Also, do you have showers at work?

Will kill you in the first week! Aim to ride a couple of days a week and build up. I cycle/commute 3 days a week, 17 miles each way, use the SP1 the other 2 days, only takes 15 mins longer cycling.

Thinking of the shower question, i jump on a train for 1-2hrs straight after getting to the station
also carring stuff for work, uniform etc? may have to rethink.

20 miles a day if you're unfit - no chance. Give it a couple of months before you do that.

I was going to ask about what you train journey was like. If you're going to be on a train for up to 2-hours after your ride I'd say stick to the motorbike. I would suggest that in these circumstances you getting on a train in sweaty and soiled clothes is unreasonable.

Unfortunatly, the Rail companies are doing all they can to make combining rail travel and cycling unviable. The London to Brighton Charity Ride is a perfect example. The rolling stock currently used out accross the Rail Network has very poor provision for bikes. Where space is available the accompanying seating is usually fabric too - how hard is it to cover a few seats with vinyl for example????

I'd say you currently have the 'best' environmentally friendly and efficient method of getting to the Station - motorbike.
