Can it be done?

New job has a cycle 2 work scheme with Evans. The plan was to expand the collection of (road) bikes by getting a mountain bike that will be mainly used for road riding, very occasional off road stuff, and for it to be the permanent home for a Hamax childseat.

Looking at a couple of bikes around my budget of £500, there seem to be a couple of things that may foil my plan. Firstly many seem to have the cables for the rear mech routed down the back of the seat tube, which would potentially foul on the childseat bracket. The second issue is that being a short arse, the frames would be small, and I am concerned that the bracket cannot be fixed high enough, particularly if there is all the gubbins relating to the seat tube routing of cables.

So, has anybody done this? Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Get a seat that fits to a panier rack. Safer than those seat tube-mounted ones as well.
