I have a GIANT mountain bike which is fitted with GIANT MPH hydraulic disc brakes. I have had the bike stored in the shed over winter. The other day I got the bike out to prepare it for the spring/summer period, as I wish to use it to cycle to work. Both front and rear brakes were stuck on.
After turning the thumbwheel adjuster on the front wheel brake reservoir the brake released and is now performing satisfactorily.
However, the same cannot be said of the rear brake. The thumbwheel adjuster on the rear brake lever is stiff and will only turn a very small amount in either direction. The brake lever itself is extremely stiff and the rear brake is sticking on.
Any suggestions how I can free it? Or will the bike need to go to a repairer?
(I have minimal mechanical skills/knowledge!)

Given that you admit to having low mechanical skills I suggest you pop along to yur LBS and let them sort the brake out. Seems odd the brakes have locked 'on' whilst being stored. Without pressure on the lever the pistons should have stayed in the calipers.

Crack the bleed nipple open on the rear caliper (about a 1/4 turn), ease out a little bit of fluid then re-tighten it, give the lever a squeeze and if all is well, cool, if not repeat till you get free running and good feel.
