I'm returning to mountain biking after a break of a few years. Can anyone here point me in the direction of a good quality, well-specced bike for use on forest trails mainly.

Thanks, Mark.

Whats your budget?
What specific models are you interested in?
What size frame do you need?
Do you really need full suss or do you want full suss?
How experienced are you?

Up to £500.
My last bike was a Marin, so I'm looking for equivalent quality.
Around 16-17 inch.
I've tried both recently and I NEED F/S.
I started to ride mountain bikes before there were 'Mountain Bikes' (we built our own you see) and for the past 25 years I've rarely been without a bike. However following an injury I've been out of the saddle for the last 5 years.
Hope that helps you out....

Ebay & the www.singletrackworld.com classifieds ought to be your first port of call. Check the latter on a daily basis, as stuff sells quick quickly and alot of threads soon find their way to the 2nd and 3rd pages.

I don't know of anything decent going for that budgt and size at the minut unfortunately. Good luck with the searching.

Avoid buying a nicked bike by insisting on proof of purchase from the vendor.

Good point on Ebay - local bike shop reckon they see a couple of Ebay Bikes turn up every week - whole bikes that fit into 3 carrier bags so they can be 'delivered'... Proof of puchase always good, and so is just asking around in shops - scored a Yeti 575 that way.

As you're in Surrey you could try Cyclopeadia on ewel road in Surbiton. Ask for Zach, last years demo models are usually up for sale, and they've been looked after.
