If you were given ten grand to head off to your local bike shop, what would you come back with?

I'd never use half of it's big hit capability, but I'd get something like an Orange 224 or a Kona Stinky for bling...

An Ashton Justice MTB trials bike to hop on and on embarassingly small obstacles whilst no one was looking...

An updated version of my own Sub5 or a well specced Specialized Enduro for normal trail stuff...

A Giant XTC hardtail - in carbon if they do one...

And finally, one of those rather pimp Canondale hybrid bikes to ride to work on.

That might actually be over budget, but you get the idea. smile

1) Storck Scenario with Record throughout - for 'best'.
2) A Tarmac SL2 for training/commuting.
3) Scott Scale Ltd

Actually, that would take care of the 10k and then some...

ETA, oh and a red S-Works carbon hardtail...

Hmm, my choice tends to change on a weekly basis. Currently in favour are;

Fun FS - Commencal 5.5
Serious FS - Litespeed Sewanee
Fun HT - Orange SubZero
Serious HT - Lapierre Pro Race 900

10k wouldn't be enough, in fact between myself & my girlfriend, ours are insured for more than that!

If it was proper fantasy though, I think the RN01 would properly blow the budget alone biggrin

Full sus Tandem MTB. Nikolai. Tandem MTBs are great fun (I have a dale)

2 wheel drive MTB - supposed to be pretty average really, but hey I've now one the Euro millions so what the hell.

Off road wheelchair - again just curious and looks like fun.

The Kiwi built DH bike with two shocks (Can't remember the name)

And then a range of all mountain to xc full suss and hardtail bikes. Basically try them all and find one that suits me.

Nice carbon road bike - Scott probably.

Oh and a box of explosives to blow up my Whyte 46. Worst bike I've ever owned and the reason I now never believe MTB mag reviews. 10 out of 10 my arse.

Actually, I might just have one of all of those too! Top marks for originality.

I must admit I think those offroad wheelchairs (and the people in them) are incredible. When you watch people doing the Whistler downhill or a skatepark in them it beggars belief.

Has anyone actually done a 2X2 moutnain bike? I know there have been a few motorbikes that did it and I've got vague recollections of something pedal powered.

The tandem full susser is again, too random, not to have. thumbup

£10k, that would get 1.5 Nicolai Nucleons, i am assumign its a full on fantasy garage.

:: Honda DH bike, as i cant believe their are none left.
:: Breezer Lightening rigid singlespeed.
:: Nicolai would be spending a lot there... Nucleon TFR, UFO, BMXTB & Helius tandem... even if i just look at them, who cares.
:: Lawhill Yeti
:: Christiani (?) 2wd mountain bike, purely as i am now assuredly loaded
:: Merlin Ti bike again as i always drolled over them in the early days
:: That wonderful linkage bike Phillip Perakis used to ride, names anyone?
:: Windceetah Hypersport - always fancied one.
:: Standard Byke 250L
:: Litespeed Roadbike
:: Tomac Raliegh Ti with the Tioga Wheeldisc, agian drool material.
:: unicycle (to heavy for the lidl's one)
:: A Slingshot, i beleive they are still made, again not for its riding qualities, but because i can.
:: Chamleon much like the one the lad had on here a week ago.
:: a belt driven bike, again not for its prowess only because i can.
:: Charge Duster Ti, always liked em, XC/ freeride build i think.
:: Curtis Mountain Bike Sidecar, saw them once years ago looked well cool, again only out of curiousity!

:: unlimited credit at that online irish based bike shop!

i really would go bananas... currently struggling to have less than three bikes...

edit :: oh an Allsop tandem, had a go (stokering) of Rory Hitchens one at a nemba race years ago DH, it was indeed hilarious fun, binned it constantly. purely to remind me of the erly design...

FS - Something like a Five or meta 5.5
HT Long Travel - something like a Handjob, Prince Albert or a Orange P7
HT RD - road going mtb something like a steel Orange with Rigid Forks or a Carerra Subway 2 not really for a dream garage bike but i've always fancied one.
HT XC - cross country XC bike like a Orange EVO8, or Commencal Flame, or something with a scandium frameset and no more than 100mm travel.
HC TI - Titanium Hardtail like a Hummer or Moots

All would be frame sets and built with choice components suitable for each bike,

If there was an left a Orange 224 just because one day I might need it wink

wink me too, i am halfway there already , and i want to add the hummer and G spot.

but seeing as there is a dream budget,

A Scott Addict limited as it is stunning looking and stupid light,

A Scott Scale Limited same reason as above,

FBM Capone BMX
T1 Ruben BMX
Standard STA 500 OX BMX
S&M black bike BMX

I Love BMX

Trek 69er single speed, like to try 29 front wheel, and this bike is the first trek i have seen for ages and makes me go wow

Scott Gambler DH, rode one last week, it was very good, short, fast, stunning.

That would do to be going on with,

smile

For anyone else who's interested (intrigued that is, rather than cheque book brandishing!) in a 2WD mountain bike, here's some info:

http://www.christinibicycles.com/tech-about.php

In a nutshell, you can engage or disengage the centre diff at will and when you do so, there is a slight difference in gearing between the front and the rear wheels, combined with a freewheel hub on the front, which means the drive on the front is only taken up when it's rate of rotation is different to the rear (i.e one of them is slipping). Sounds awesome in theory, I'd love to get hold of one and try it out in practice...

Danny comes pedalling with us on a Tuesday night. F*ck me he is quick. He's come past me on his hardtail popping off rocks and doing tricks like I was stood still. I was flat out on my 6 inch travel full sus. Very demoralising to all us that are twice his age and then some.

What is funny though, is that its only within the last year that he's become strong enough to lift his bike over styles. When grows up he'll be a future world champ.

When I cost my bikes in my real garage they add up to over £10,000. Being that I have connections in the bike trade and bought them at trade price this halves the cost. Now if I add my sons, Carbon Epic, Carbon Bianchi, Pinnacle Cross, Yeti 575, bmx and jump bike we are well over £10,000. The only bike I really want and would thoroughly use and abuse is a Scott Scale as a replacemant for my old S Works. Thats it. I'd be happy.
