Can UST specific tyres be mounted to non-UST rims without any adverse affects?

I've got some mud tyres on another bike that I don't use, but I was thinking i'd put them on a spare wheelset I have for the Commencal so i've got a winter & summer wheelset ready for races and such through the year.

My friend is running UST XC Pro's on his Hope Pro III's without problem. He still runs them tubeless using Stan's.
