I found a abandoned GT mountain bike frame without wheels in bush on side of footpath. and carry it home?

Its really nice frame but heavy, bottom end of GT bike range. But it's will do me good as cross country bike.

All i need is back wheel, and new brakes/gear lines as it rusted away, and new grip as i got bit thing about bike grip hygenie, then bike is good to go!

Don't see why you shouldn't take it.

Will the cost of returning it to a good standard be less than buying the full bike (or equivilent) from Halfords?

Sounds fine, but to be on the safe side - as it could have been stolen and then dumped - pop in to your local nick with the details and file it as a found item which you can retain. If no one has already reported it missing, and there are no claims afer 28 days, it's yours to keep.
