Anyone else in pain this evening?
Discussion
Worst ever MTB accident for me today. Was testing my new Revelations out on a favourite bit of rocky downhill only to find myself thrown over the handlebars at a GPS verified 40km/h Seconds earier I was commenting just how great my new forks are and how they've allowing me to go that much quicker
Not really sure what happened but the rear end just bucked up and threw me into the air (hardtail). I landed very hard on my left side and saw the bike go flying over my head out of the corner on my eye. I think I'm pulled pretty much every muscle in my hip too. Ho hum, at least the bike is ok (I think) but I guess I'm going to be sore in the morning

No but if you posted this last week then I'd be with you, I'd done a good ride and was being lazy heading back to the car, didn't bother following the trail and bang over the bars not very fast but still hurt ended up multiple bruises, on arms and legs and needing a new helmet as I hit my head on the ground quite hard.
Like you I don't recall much it happened so quick, sounds like you got away with bruising and no broken bones though, but a nasty high speed accident, did you have far to get back to car or home?
It is part of the sport though to come off every now and then

Luckily it was just at the end of 3.5 hours of riding around the Mendips and only 2 miles from home. Still took bloody ages as I couldn't pedal and basically had to sit on the saddle with my right foot wheeling me along.
As they say, if you don't some off now and they you're not trying hard enough

That does sound nasty, this week I managed to wreck my rear mech and hanger so had one gear to use to do about 4 miles back to the car. Hoping to have more luck next time out.
Hope it's all ok in the AM does sound like it was a proper big one. Hats of for effort you right it shows you were trying

Looks nasty! Perhaps gloves might be a good option next time
I'm still in pain this morning but seem to be able to hobble about. Definiately pulled a muscle or two as it's tricky to bend my leg at the hip.
Had a chance to look at the plots from my GPS now (yes I'm that sad):
Shows how your heart rate jumps when you've had an off and the rapid deceleration of the bike once it had finished flying over my head

Just wondering, how would one know if you've broken anything? I was feeling ok this morning but whilst driving into work I sneezed and dam near passed out with the pain it caused I had to pull over for ten mins to rest. I eventually got to work but getting out the car was a struggle and I felt my hip click/cruch back into place. There's been no feeling of clicking/crunching before that and I was able to hobble about all yesterday just fine.

Sounds likes a hospital visit for you laddie. Better to be checked out and given the all clear then persevere and find you've buggered something important.ETA In all seriousness, it doesn't sound good, i'd definately get checked out.

I went to A&E a few years back with a broken wrist after I slipped down a bank in some woodlands in Wales. I swear the A&E staff knew I'd had a few beers and some magic 'shrooms, they did not like me one little bit.
Deffo get it checked out. A mate did a similar thing recently and eventually went to hospital = broken scaphoid (sp) bone.

I'm back
What a bloody long and boring day! Went to the nearest hospital to the office but that only has a "minor injuries" clinic and not a proper A&E so after waiting around there for half an hour was told they can't do a hip x-ray there and I should go to the main hospital to see a doctor. So off I go (kindly driven by my boss) only to find the main hospital is packed and would involve a massive wait.
Bugger this thinks I, so decide to head back home to the local hospital which I know can sort me out (went there last month for another MTB related injury ).
Not so busy and was seen in just under an hour and after much poking/proding, a tetanus booster and a pee sample (to check kidneys), I was given the all clear Been told to take painkillers (ibuprofen and cocodamol) which is ok but I'm not to go riding for 1 to 2 weeks
Here's a pic anyway:

This thread is why I stick to minor trails and forests. No rocky descents for me!
Nah, you've got to live a little, you can be too cautious you know. I suspect Moose will be taking rocky descents easy for a little while after he's back in the saddle, wounds heal fairly quickly but in my experience confidence takes a little longer to return after these misshaps.Parrot of Doom said:
Taking risks is a bit risky when you're self employed
It helps if you don't have a brain....ahem. For my sins, I came off going like the clappers down the winter hill descent, at night, about 3 months ago and buggered my shoulder up. FWIW, I'm still honouring my physio committments but I reckon I'm delaying the inevitable scans nay surgery!
Took the bike out for the first time t'other day to get some miles in.
I love the thing even though it's trying to kill me.
Its funny, yesterday I was out with a mate and around the twisty muddy root-infested trails he was loving it - personally I just take it easy.
When we got to the old train line, I was off into the distance leaving him a good 2 minutes behind me. I could ride like that all day long, the technical stuff doesn't really do much for me.
Thats why I like riding on canals really, because you're away from the roads, its dirt/mud all the way, lovely scenery, and you can get a nice run of speed up.
